Should I buy this '12 2SS vert
I had a couple pics taken to help determine if there are any issues. The car was supposedly made in late 05/12.
Are the ribs supposed to look like this? With the top down is the "arm" supposed to be "up" like that? How would the cover fit over it? Supposedly the top had just been lowered. |

The arm should definitely NOT be up like that. MIne isn't. The ribs look normal however.

I agree the arms do not look like mine. No way would a tonneau cover fit over those. Also looking at the same picture it does not appear top is down correctly. It appears front lip is up where it would catch air at highway speed. If at a dealer ask to go on a test drive with top down. I think you might have major issues with wind catching top.
On top up picture the back rib does not look correct to me. Mine does stick out some but not that much. |

The top appears to be overly tight. This is why it will not settle properly in the boot, and the rib exposure is exagerated. Don't know if this is a good thing or a bad one. Generally, a top that starts out too tight has a better chance of not becoming saggy and loose prematurely. However, if too tight it could actually put so much strain on the material that it causes premature failure of the material. Assuming you are buying new from a dealer, and you are getting a great price because it is a 2012, I would just have them acknowledge the issue in writing so that you have a better leg to stand on if you need warranty work done later. Good luck.

Thats one F up top ..if it's a NEW '12 I'd pass...mine is smooth as butter ( that top UP looks like a starved dawgs rib cage). When down it should be ALL the way down..period..

Is it new or used? If used, I would suspect it was a trade from a problem top issue. If new...I would be leery of that car the way the top is not down all the way. The ribs are normal. They only look that pronounced in lighting like you took that picture in.

My 12 looks NOTHING like that. I'd pass unless you get a GREAT deal contingent on a proper roof repair.

Looking at the pic again, it looks like the roof isn't fully retracted. Maybe it was left up partially when that pic was taken. Not only is the arm up, but the header itself isn't all the way down.

Stay away. Does not look like a healthy top - who knows whether it's already suffered any leaks because of the top and / or related "fixes".
Now, if they sell it to you for 1/2 price with a lifetime warranty on the top, mechanics, water management system, then it might warrant a closer look. Anything short of that, you'll be getting into more grief than you'd care to even think about.

I can not recommend a Camaro Convertible of any year or any flavor unless you want a car AND a top hobby.
