11' LS vs 05 mustang gt
After a very few mods (listed), lost to my roommate by about 2.5 car lengths. Really shortened the gap. May have just learned to drive better lol, but a few more and ill be there. a little forced induction and cant wait to walk him.

OP needs to post timeslips so we can see where he needs to improve... but let me guess... it was on a "private" road...

For the big rims, and just a intake and tune I think thats pretty decent. Lighter/smaller rims and one or two more cheap mods and you'd likely be right with him.

You'll most likely have to get a little deeper into either mechanical or tuning mods . . . or else wait for him to have a day when he's off his best game.
Part of it is the 40 lb-ft difference in peak torque, still more is because his torque peak comes in at a slightly lower rpm. This is assuming that he's still with the factory stock GT tune, which as mentioned already may not be true, in which case the deficit would be 50 ft-lbs or more. Point here being that you really need to start out and stay above the rpms where your peak torque is reached to really have a fighting chance. Taller tires will reduce your acceleration, no way around this without changing your axle gearing. Gearing wasn't mentioned until ↑↑↑, but chances are very good that his GT has better axle gears than you. Stock, the 2005 manual tranny GT came with 3.55's (and many Mustang owners have since swapped to 3.73's, 3.90's, or 4.10's). About the wheels/tires (and lots of other things, actually) - appearance considerations may win the pride of ownership battle but won't usually win races. No flame intended, I'm just a hardcore performance guy who speaks (types?) directly about this sort of thing. BTW, you might want to go back and identify your "private road" a little less clearly. Just saying . . . Norm |
