short throw shifter..more likely to gggggrind?

Hey guys..I was 100% sure I was gonna get a short throw shifter for my car since I'm not thrilled with how the factory shifter feels (even though after almost 3k miles on the car I'm actually getting used to the crappy shifter)...now the reason I've been extremely reluctant about getting a shifter is the whole second gear grind..I know obviously the faster and harder you shift gears the more likely it is yo will grind at some point in time. Now I won't be banging gears all the time, but will just having the short throw in there during normal driving be that much harder on the trans that i will likely start to get the infamous grind? So far knock on wood I haven't had any grinding..my car was built April of 2010..if its way more likely I will get the grind after the install then i will just live with the factory shifter. The shifter I was looking at was the barton..any advice would be great.

The people who are experiencing grind have the OEM shifter, or the factory hurst shifter. So I feel like you'd be fine.

No grinding with my factory hurst and I've been breaking it in less than gently. I thought it was with the aftermarket hurst because the 44% reduction was too fast for the synchros to keep up. Everything in the 20% range has been fine unless they had larger transmission issues going on.

I just installed the Hurst short throw shifter a few weeks ago in my 2LT. Gotta say I love it when driving! But I can say that I do every once in awhile grind a gear (when driving aggressive). This is mostly from first to second gear and rarely when going into third. I need to get use to the shifting pattern being so short. Then this should go away, at least I hope.

I have zero issues with my aftermarket Hurst. I also swapped out the fluid with Mobil 1. Best thing you can do right there. Mobil 1 ATF.

aftermarket shifter won;t cause a grind issue typically. that's just an easily used excuse to mask some other inherant problem

+1

The stock shifter has such a long throw that you could have a problem and never know it. A short throw will increase the symptoms so you notice it more, but it is not the cause.

Could anybody tell me what the reduction rate of the shift is with the barton? somewhere around 20 percent?

I have the LG and the only grind I have had was an immediate power shift on a cold morning and tranny not being warm. Outside of that I love it.
