good idea or not

Should i pay an oil change place to use my oil and filter when i change oil, or use there products? or buy ramps and do this myself..? i am 63 and more then capable? but.....should i,, really undecided..how much is my time worth, or can i trust the mechanic not to scratch my fender...in any case you get my drift..

IMO, better off to do it yourself. Easy procedure with some ramps

I do my own mods when I have the tools and an oil change is easy. However, disposing of the oil is a real pain. Therefore, I prefer to have the local Mobile 1 Quick Lube do the work. I get to watch them to make sure they don't screw it up and I know its getting Mobile 1, and a good filter. But I don't have to dispose of 8 quarts of used oil, and I WILL NOT just dump it down the drain. I also get a nice receipt for my maintenance records. I pay $100.

Most chain auto parts stores will let you dump your oil for free, in their waste oil tank.

There's even some shops that still use their own oil and keep yours when you bring it in.

Good for you.. I had some problems with my order so the dealership "threw in" 6 oil changes. After that, I will try the DIY method as well - mine takes 8+ quarts of Mobil1, but no biggee - WalMart carries it.
