Today, I worked on getting the lid off. Drained the sc coolant (mostly), worked the hoses out of the way, unbolted the lid bolts (back are a $#!!, did it without dropping the cradle), and took off the lid.

Even with catch cans, some oil still made it in:

This is with over 15k miles...

Cleaned the oil out of the lid and prepped it for install:

Cleaned out the big blotches of oil and covered the lower manifold until the new sc gets here:

when the new sc gets here, I'll take off the remaining items (coils, injector right-side connectors, throttle body, lower manifold bolts, etc!)

More cleanup -- took off the CAI intake tube, cleaned it, took off the Throttle Body and cleaned it up, covered up the opening to the manifold:

All that's left is Gas Cap, release the fuel in the fuel rail, unbolt the manifold, and remove it. Already cleaned around the manifold so grit does not fall into the head openings...

Ready for the updated blower.

ON the excess oil:

I looked at older pics I had, and, it appears the 'drivers' side valve cover vent is pulling way too much oil in for the mini Mishimoto catch can so, I'm going to block off the driver's side (like the LS3 does) and now, the Might Mouse will do the hard labor. Since I ran a 'vented' cap, no oil got into the manifold -- thus, when I changed, I really needed to route the 'drivers' side to the MM and NOT the Mishimoto -- lesson learned...

Ryan from GPI sent me my tune! Only issue, and, I'm sure this is just a mis-step -- ITS A LOCKED TUNE -- can't see or view anything -- I'm not uploading that for sure, as I in no way want to lock my ECM -- I did send him a note -- first time I've ever seen a lock tune notice -- freaky notice too ;o). I'm betting that is the default EFI Live software install for the upgrade now. I verified my older tunes were view-able -- never know, sometimes software updates can cause more problems than they fix...

We'll wait for the unlocked version for sure ;o)

New blower is in!

Looks nice!

Next will be removing the old blower, grinding off the locator on the new one (asked to have it done, Brett must have missed that), and then installed the new manifold gaskets.

More fun to come!

Yep, this will be all in the tune for sure. Once I get the basic tune I'll baby it until we can do the full Monty!

Alright! Today I released the fuel rail pressure (removed the fuel cap and pressed the schrader valve -- lots of shop towels), remove the fuel line, and then began unbolting the manifold -- removed the belt and lifted the manifold off:

After that, covered the manifold, cleaned the openings on the heads and covered them up:

Then, removed the fuel rail and covered the injectors. At this point, nothing dirty has entered the fuel rail as I capped it once the fuel line was off:

Next, install the new injectors, then, grind the locator on the manifold, and get it ready to install!

ALSO, Ryan was able to resolve the issue with the tune, I have an AutoCal and needed the tune to be setup for that! All good to go!

OH and BTW, the engine is just that clean -- I didn't do anything more than remove any possible grit -- sprayed brake-kleen first around the ports and just wiped it off before unbolting the manifold. The valley pan is untouched! Not bad for 15k miles!

Here is a great tip I picked up from Jeremy Formato of FasterProms:

According to Jeremy, this will reduce 'rotor pack temps' 100°!

Here is his youtube on the r-n-r and how they do things (around 4:05 in the video):

This is a mylar insulator -- you can buy at Lowes, and use reflection tape!

I first made a template and then used it to cut out the mylar:

Not bad and yes, the SC Lower manifold clears as the mylar is not as tall as the valley cover bolts!

Jokerz Max Snout Port

Wanted to show the 'max effort' Brett from Jokerz did on the snout:

You'll notice that he did the 'weld and grind' to do a full port. The snout is ported out to 90MM vs the 87MM for stock.

Also here are some cool pics of the pulley:

All prepped for grinding the locator!

Looks like the Mishimoto Kit will be coming close to the end of April. That's good @ least I'll have it before the May NCM dates (late May). Like to have that all there and car tuned with updated fueling before going.

Will be working on grinding the locator in the SC manifold today -- got everything ready (as long as the rain holds off ;o)...
