tow different cars = 2 different weights, gearings (transmissions, rear ends, tire heights), exhausts, etc.
it ain't exactly an apples -> apples comparison

Well I figured, it was cause they have at least the same HP to the motor, Im sure the GTO weighs at least 100-200lbs less than the L99, depending if the GTO was auto or man.

L99 only weighs 50 more than the LS3. You're making it sound like it's hundreds.

One slow L99
What in the heck is going on? In June I made a couple of trips to the track and made a few runs totally stock with the best being a 14.10 and 14.13 at around 102mph. Temperatures where hot at around 105. In August I installed a K&N CAI and JBA Long Tube Headers with hi flow cats and 3" catback exhaust and Nitto Drag Radials. I went back to the strip all excited with the same basic weather conditions and ran a 14.4 at 99?.
Assuming this had to be a tuning issue, I put it on the Dyno where we started with 310 rwhp and ended with 383rwhp. Back to the track last night. Conditions were much better with temps in the low 90's (good for Vegas). My best pass was 14.3 at 100? What in the heck is going on? The 60 foot time is crap at 2.2 no matter what the modifications are and the tuner is now scratching his head, like me. On the bottom end this thing is DEAD. It wont launch, no matter how many control systems are turned off. Light up the tires, do a burnout, turn off TC and ST, it doesn't matter, it still does 60 feet in 2.2 at best. It wasn't a great night that is for sure. My buddies M6 ripped the transaxle out of his last night and it is stone stock. I'm not sure these babies aren't better suited for the road course as there are sure a lot of people having issues with them. Any pointers on how we can get some of the performance I am reading about on this site with guy's running in the mid 12's in cars set up just like mine? The bottom line, it ran 2 tenths faster STONE STOCK. Thanks |

I know it doesn't make any sense. That is what everyone is saying including the equipment suppliers and the Dyno Guy who was at the track last night to watch the runs.

Try this Density Altitude DA Calculator.
Most people use this to calculate what their ET's are at the correct DA. I know in Las Vegas, the altitude there is higher than lets say New Jersey. This will give you your corrected ET at sea level. I know a lot of people used this tool and plug in your information and see what it gives you .... if it doesnt look right...then I dont have a clue Density Altitude Calculator

Thanks, I appreciate the info. My real delema here is that it is running slower with headers, CAI and a tune than it did STOCK, irespective of altitude or temp or humidity as all runs were under the same general contitions and location.

They're using two different scales on the same chart so it looks off.. I thought the same thing when I saw it.. but, if you look at the numbers for TQ and HP at the printed RPMs, you'll notice that if they were aligneg using the same scale, then they would cross at 5252
