Funny Pullover Story
First, Let me preface by saying I don't generally drive like a maniac.
Last night I was at a traffic light, first car. Light goes green and there is a wide open stretch of country road in front of me. I give it some gas and take it up to about 75 in a 55. Guy behind me hangs right in there with me. We were still the only cars on the road. I slow down to normal cruise and the guy is riding my tail. Just for fun I gas it again - nothing crazy just up to around 75 again and he's rolling with me - not overly aggressive. Again I slow down and BOOM! he hits the lights - unmarked car (I'm shocked cause radar detector never went off - he was just pacing me). I know I was in the wrong so I get the documentation out when the officer shows up at my door... in his street clothes. He tells me he's off duty and has his kid in the car but wanted to warn me that I was going a bit to fast. Comes off as a real nice guy, then proceeds to ask if the car is new... over the next two or three sentences he happens to mention about three more times that he really likes the car - that made me chuckle. I never did end up giving him my stuff and he left it at that.... So in conclusion, I was wrong - should have got a ticket, although pretty comfortable I wasn't putting anyone in danger. Got pulled over by an off duty cop who I think may have just wanted a closer look at my car. I actually owe that guy one and learned a valuable lesson. |

So he tailgates and paces you with kids in the car.
The wrong person needs to be taught a lesson.

I was thinking the same thing. What if you had been a really BAD guy. He takes the chance of getting himself and his kid killed. Poor choice on his part JMO????? |

Did you see his badge? Sounds kind of fishy to me. My daughter and her husband are in law enforcement and I know darn well they would never pull anyone over off duty, wearing street cloths with a child in the car. Not a very smart move on his part.

Officer just wanted to get a closer look at the car. Glad it worked out.

Some of you are so melodramatic. OP forgot himself and was playing a little bit. I agree with his take. Wide open road, little to no chance of any incident. He was not pushing the car to the limit, just having some fun. Cop was not doing any harm either. He was watching the the OP, probably with his foot right near the brake, so little if any chance of rear ending. Anyone who finds this a very dangerous situation must have so little skill that I would suggest trading in your Camaros for a bicycle and a very good helmet! C'mon man. Great story OP......good for all of us to remember.
Let me close with this....the guy who is playing a bit is paying so much more attention than the average driver that he is at far less risk of causing an incident. I'm not evening referencing the guy or gal that is texting, just those that are in La La Land when behind the wheel. |

75 in a 55....not like you were doing 100. 20 over would be a big ticket but there is a difference between 20 over on the 4 lane and 20 over in a residential.
Hell I was doing 75 in a 55 on the beltway around Philly and was scared if I went any slower someone would shoot me!!

To be clear... The cop was very nice, I don't think he did anything wrong... I was not acting it radically, really just listening to the npp open up (75 in a 55 isn't outrageousness on wide open road). That said, I was breaking the law and got lucky that an obvious Camaro lover reminded me of the chances you take when playing around.
