Seeing lots of Voodoo motors blowing up in stock form. Unfortunately not a rare occurrence

The car belongs to a friend of mine. Engine started losing power, then seized. Not sure what happened. He was still warming up when it happened, no missed shift, no over rev. Likely a manufacturing issue, much like a number of the early C7 engines. Stuff happens. Ford’s response will be the important thing to me.

Well hopefully FoMoCo does the right thing and gets him back on track. Wishing your friend the best of luck and sorry to hear that it happened.

That really sucks. Ford seems to taking care of the guys with engine failures, but man, there just seems to be a large number of them comparatively.

Maybe ran short of oil. When I first got mine, it burned 5 quarts in 1700 miles. Of course the engine lived at 6000 rpm. But if I had not read about the oil consumption I would not have checked it. I have never checked my oil in any new car that soon. It's new, why would I do that?

Sucks to see nice cars disabled on track, but it happens. Sometimes it is driver error (missed shift). Sometimes it is poor workmanship. Sometimes it is a design flaw/weak link. Sometimes it is just shit happens.

I hope it does not deter the owner from tracking again in the future.

As to the Voodoo engine and the GT350 in general, I never considered it as a track car. The engine is too rare. There is little familiarity with it. Parts are hard to get on short order if you have a problem. Things are just more expensive.

To me, a track car needs to have commonly available major components (engine, transmission, brakes, etc) as the #1 pre-requisite. Tracking rare vehicles is asking for trouble.
Very well said. Just because someone tracks a car doesn't make it a "track car". Racing involves cars breaking and fixing all the time.

Yeah it would have been nice if they spend a few more dollars and just did billet OPG and Timing from the factory :|

Wow. Sorry for your friend. It sucks to be all excited for a track day and going back home with a broken car. I hope it can be fixed in short order. But unfortunately, it is not like Ford has a ton of spare engines laying around. A seized engine on track means he needs a completely new engine. He should not accept anything less. Unless it was not really seized and just shut down due to electronics or fuel starvation and the like. Hoping for the best.

Quick update on this car. It took Ford 10 days to make the decision to replace the engine (a bit long considering there was a rod hanging out the side of the block) but a new motor is on the way. No idea what the cause was, but Ford is taking care of it.

I believe voodoo engines aren't related to Coyote's engines, very different design. I used to track very hard my '11 Mustang GT 5.0 with 3.73 gear without a single malfunction or overheating at the track.

On other hand, during the first year of the new Shelby GT350 if it wasn't optioned with the track package wich included additional coolers, if the car's engine while tracking got damaged, there was no warranty covered by FOMOCO if the damage to the engine happened while tracking it (even in a ocassional event), there were several unhappy customers with this situation. Afterwards Ford on the following years included the trackpack on all their new Shelbys GT350s to prevent this issue.

That isn't true at all. Many 5.2 parts (including heads and intake) work and fit on a 5.0 Coyote with little or no adjustments. The bottom end is very similar in design as well minus the crankshaft planes.
