Most of my performance parts are from WS6Store. Here's a link to their Flowmaster stuff: http://www.ws6project.com/user_stor/...a&filter_id=96

I buy a lot of "normal" stuff from Amazon. They have the best price for ACDelco stuff and sometimes for other mods.

If you are looking for GM parts, contact Rich (MS3DALE) and see what he can do for you.

Hey guys I just got done reading a good article in the May 2005 issue of Popular Hot Rodding Magazine. The article was written by David Vizard who seems to be one of the most accredited and respected people in the automotive performance world. In the article he stated that CFM is a great way to help develop a zero loss exhaust system. For zero loss a exhaust must flow 2.2 CFM per horsepower(This means less than 1% of total power produced by the engine is lost due to back pressure.). From reading the article I think that a lot of people that see gains when going from a 2.5” exhaust system to a 3” dual system see them because the muffler on the 2.5” system didn’t flow enough for their application. David stated that per square inch of exhaust tubing there is 115 CFM of flow. So plugging some numbers into the good ole TI-89….. ((3.14 * radius^2)*115[*2 for a dual exhaust system])/2.2 = Max hp supported with zero loss

A 2.75” (stock) single system is good for a 310hp engine with zero loss…
A 3” Single system is good for a 370hp engine with zero loss…
A 3.5” Single system is good for a 503hp engine with zero loss…
A 4” Single system is good for a 657hp engine with zero loss…
A 2.25” dual system is good for a 457hp engine with zero loss…
A 2.5” dual system is good for a 513hp engine with zero loss…
A 3” dual system is good for a 812hp engine with zero loss…

Now these numbers are assuming that everything else is set up perfectly. The muffler must flow as much as the open pipe or more to get zero loss at the listed hp levels. He also states that using a muffler with a larger inlet/outlet diameter than your exhaust pipe is a great way to get more out of a smaller diameter system since the muffler flow will be able to match the straight pipe flow. Now there are many other things to consider when designing an exhaust system but I figured this would give a great foundation to build on.

Just a side note that he stated that I thought was neat... “Just as fish don’t feel the weight of water, we don’t readily appreciate the weight of air. Just to set the record straight, a cube of air 100 feet square will weigh 38 tons!”

Hopefully I’ll get some more understanding of flow in a closed space in my fluid dynamics class next semester.

cool proved my point. also the exhaust piping means very little with your exhaust manifolds and cats still in place... two large bottlenecks.

Welcome to the thread..

You would go crazzy over modds initially... well atleast i went crazzy lol
I have a MRT v2 axle back exhaust.. it has a very deep tone but not too loud.. it gives a exotic finish to the car... if you want to go loud bolra attack is a good one.. next modd for most people is usually the knn/bbk ect ect cold air airintake and cosmetic changes..
Best of luck have fun

umm.. if i knew why would i ask.. and it has nothing to do with common sense.. most common ppl dont mess or know about pipes in their cars.. the only time i even looked under my car is when some one installed the exhaust an year ago..
But thanks anyways

It has everything to do with common sense. If we're talking about downstream hp and pressure losses from the cat with changing diameter, its quite obvious we're not talking about your awesome 3.5" tips. If you don't understand the conversation, sit back, gauge it, then perhaps do a google search and learn something.

MOST people (especially in terms of this forum) do mess with their cars in one manner or another (and I'm not talking about applying badges for your fake supercharger). (Now that I'll have a garage, hopefully I can more *twiddling thumbs*) So to claim that is entirely false and only applies to you.

Sometimes there are barriers with communication, words and knowledge on the subject. And sure researching is great, but it can be just as confusing at times, their is a ton of stuff I dont understand or know about it when it comes to cars and mechanics/tuning. And asking questions to clarify is the one way to solve and correct those miscommunications or just give a simple answer on the subject. And it takes some common sense to realize those barriers sometimes, no need to belittle and be insulting about it to anyone so often. But that does make us fit the asshole American stereotype were known to be...

No one asked you to jump in with your samrt ass.. i have no clue what downstream is or what CATs doo... i will ask what ever i like were ever i like.. if some one does not want to answer my question they can eat their pride and STFU... i know their are other people here who would gladly answer anything and have been answering all my basic questions..
Yeah now that you have garage wax your car every day and sleep in it IDGF... I dont own a ferrari to take it so seriously.. speaking of common sense.. i have Engineering degree and and masters in software engineering and a minors in MBA.. i make more money than most ppl i know at 27 years old... i rather ask my friends (ppl who i consider my friends) than google it to get their point of view...
