Really? The high horsepower cars out there will eat this alive. Not sure how 300 hp is amazing. Unless the car weighs 1500 lbs. Unless you are 23 years old...

This is 97 LT1 category. 17 years later and the LT1 has an equal.

I really liked my Focus ST.... was a very fun car.... however I simply never quite liked the whole FWD thing... now if I could get it with AWD that would be a very different story!!!

Because I don't know, and you must by the flavour of your posts on this topic, what are the outputs of this cars most direct competition (Mazdaspeed3, Subaru WRX and Volkswagen GTI, others I may have missed)?

A decade or so ago when the Evo & WRX had such specs it was kinda impressive. That was a tick behind where contemporary V8s were. Now its where V6s are. So no, the engine isn't all that impressive. And lightweight? Your definition of lightweight probably differs quite a bit from mine. A compact/subcompact car weighing over 3000 lbs is not light. And over 3400 (3200+ lb Focus ST + 200 lbs of AWD & other upgrades) it would be even more not light.

So the engine isn't overly groundbreaking (the Cobalt SS hit 130 hp/L 7 or 8 years ago, albeit with a slightly smaller engine), and its not going to be particularly light. Is it crap? No, but its nothing to really get excited about either.

Impressive? No. Neat? Sure.

You can crow all day about a high HP car, but I would choose a 300 hp AWD car on a snowy day over any RWD V6 or v8. 580 hp might as well be 58 hp if the weather doesn't let you use it. Also in almost any off-pavement racing AWD is preferred.

So an American 300 hp/tq AWD car for less than a 39,000 WRX STI? That would be sweet.

Based on my past experience with the 3.5 EcoBoost and the 2.0 EcoBoost, i'm guessing the new 2.3 EcoBoost will be detuned from the factory, especially in the torque department.... so while in stock from it might not be much, i'm thinking once you put a tune on it, you will see some nice gains...

Here is my ST with the 2.0 EcoBoost with just some bolt-ons and a tune.... the 2.0 EcoBoost Focus ST is rated at 252 HP / 270 TQ...

? Why, because he's an auto enthusiast and not a Camaro zealot, or because he doesn't poop on other car threads like a moron? This is the "...other cars discussion"....if you don't like it...shoo fly. This car will likely be faster than any stock v6 Camaro, and last I checked lots of people on this site seem to drive those.

Cool. I'll place my deposit tomorrow. Beating V6s is on my goal list.
