that movie is certianly in my top 5 all time favorites

I always wondered why not use 6th in top speed runs? what RPM were you at in 5th at 155mph?

I mean theoretically with 6th being a taller gear, if the engine had the power to raise the RPM still you would still accelerate.

or mabye save a little gas by putting it in 6th at 155

, specially with the douchebag drivers over here putting on their makeup and shaving while they drive.

I have never seen someone shaving AND putting on make-up that would be a sight te he he she said douchbag. Gotta like a girl like that, and drives a Camaro. You sound like my wife

Sans the limiter, top speed will be had in fifth. Sixth is too tall.

At sea level, 20 C, 20% humidity, and an ACd of .9, it will take 390HP to sustain 180mph; this is a physics calculation not an observed value. Max HP in 5th occurs at 168, based on gearing. Redline at 187, again based on gearing. But you will never make it to 187 because max HP will only get you to 180. Hence, the SS should top out in the 170s...in fifth gear...drag limited.

Note that "drag limited", when used in top speed discussions, is used to distinguish the difference between a gearing setup where the drag limit is reached in the top speed gear prior to redline, versus a gearing setup that hits redline in the top speed gear before reaching the drag limit.

Excellent explaination.

At 280HP, the physics indicate about 160mph using the same assumptions as the SS calcs. 5th gear. Drag limited.

The actual saying on the car's digital screen is "Speed Limited To 155 MPH" and with a stock car sixth gear has no power, in fact if you shift into it at 155 (or even 150) you will actually slowly lose mph... I believe in order to overcome wind resistance in sixth you'd need to be as low as 140 or maybe even 135...

Sorry for saying so... every Porsche can, since it's not limited in the top speed :(

But well.. I'm living here in Germany but my dream car is not a Porsche ... well.. guess what it will be .

And since the Camaro V8 is now directly available here in Germany ... well gimme a reason for not buying one (except my financal balance at the moment )

btw. greetings from the other side of the deep blue atlantic ocean.
