Insurance Costs 21 Year Old
I'm currently in the market for a 2010 Camaro 2SS, I have two that I just need to go and test drive. Not having a loan for the car, paying all cash.
So I'm searching for insurance quotes. I'm a 21 year old male with 2 accidents when I was 17 (one is a little over 3 years old and the second one is 2 years old and 10 months) One is a accident involving totaling the car and the second one is a minor fender bender. I also live in a large city in Central NJ. I'm attempting to insure the car and the quotes I'm getting for full coverage start at about $350 and go upwards of $700 a month. These rates seem incredibly high, I was expecting realistically a rate between $250(low) - $450 (high) Wanted to know what others have gotten for quotes around my age group. |

it does seem a little high, but there are alot of factors that drive the price.
location, driving history/record, credit rating, age. if i remember correctly when i was 21 i had a 02 mitsu eclipse. i was paying like 175/mo for it (back then i had bad credit, but clean record) as for your accidents were they both your fault? if not they shouldnt play in effect. |

I live in Hamilton NJ zip code and credit score has a lot to do with your rates. In NJ having accidents less then 3 years ago don't help. Shop around different insurance co. I was with New Jersey Manufactures for 23 years and left. I went with Allstate less then half the price with more coverage

The rates you were expecting sound about right to me, but 350 is in the middle of that, unless you try shopping heavily online and locally for best rate 350 may be the best. 21, 2 accidents, and a Camaro SS V8 it all adds up.

I think I'm around the $300 range, and I'm a 22 male from Texas with no accidents. 2 tickets but one was dismissed from insurance due to defensive driving, other was not.
With 2 wrecks that sounds about right.

Wow in canada my rates are much better. Im 22, clean driving record and i pay 160 a month for my zl1. And 200 for my 06 equinox and renters insurance. (Zl1 is seasonal coverage so i only pay fir the summer months).
2 accidents before 21 id say is your problem there.

I don't like these threads. Very easy to spread misinformation.
Call up different insurance companies. You have to shop around. You'll get a similar price range with most of them, I bet. There are lots of factors going into insurance. Half of them haven't even been mentioned in this thread yet. Just do yourself a favor and shop around. You will see posts from $50 month to $500 a month from people on the forum which doesn't do you any good.

You live in Jersey and your 21. Not good.
Compare rates and make sure you pay attention to the limits of the policies. If you find a good rate make sure you look at the policy limits and make sure your comfortable with the limits for 3rd party personal injury. There are a lot of scammers in this world.. The last thing you need to do is have an acccident and the other party has an injury. Medical bills accrue fast and if you have a low limit you may get sued for the balance of the claim. |

No one here can tell you with certainty unless they're an insurance agent that runs your specific info. Car, type of use, credit score, age, driving record, area you live in...all factors that come into play(and then some).
But....21, a Camaro, TWO accidents and living in the shithole state of NJ(yes, I grew up in NJ, horrendous state for car insurance premiums)....good luck man...hopefully they're gentle when they ram it up your....well...you know.

Ouch! That is pretty high. I am considebly older with a clean record. I have 2 2011 cars and a 2015. My premium is $157.00 a month for all 3, and I thought that was high.
I have a question for you, are they quoting high because they consider it a high hp muscle car for a young man? It would be curious to see what they quote you for ... Say a fully loaded 2010 Ford Fusion? If the difference is not that much, then get the Camaro. But if it is several hundred less for the fusion you might want to hold off on the muscle car. Seems to me your rates might just be high regardless of what you drive.

EXACTLY! Many factors are considered for any insurance company on the rate you'll end up with. You definitely are in the high risk for your age, you are insuring a performance car (another premium), two accidents in recent years, your credit and where you live. Besides probably any other factors they may consider. You'll just have to get quotes with all the insurance companies you can contact that do insure people in your state. Don't expect a low rate at your age though.

The accidents/location are hurting you big time ago. Before we moved to our current location we were in a city of about 100,000 people only about 30 miles from our new house. Living in the city we were paying literally double what we are now. Not a very useful figure for you, but currently we pay annually and it comes out to about $105/month for 3 cars, with one minor at fault accident by my wife a couple years ago.
Try getting yourself an insurance agent who can shop around with different companies, I have had great luck with that - he keeps finding us deals so we change carriers almost annually for lower rates.
