Even the photos are confusing... if they hit a tree why the damage in multiple areas to the front and rear? Enquiring minds want to know!

EDIT:
I'm liking the way tramtwo is thinking. I'm thinking the same.

Facts so far...

Thief used a key to steal the car.
OP was careless about the keys.
OP was at a friends place when the car was stolen.
OP reported the car stolen hours after the unoccupied car was found crashed by police.
Police contacted the OP after the crash and discovered he is apparently uninjured.
OP is upside down on his car loan.
OP wants insurance to pay off the loan.

I'm not trying to be a troll but an insurance adjuster will be thinking the same as I am.
My opinion and conclusion, OP has a friend who is sore and hurting.

I hope all works out for you and all involved are going to be ok. The law will punish the guy who did this, but there is no need to wish him bodily harm or death.

From the fact that he was careless about keys, at a friends house, and apparently near people he didn't totally trust... sounds like he was at a good party, not an insurance fraud. I don't know about you guys, but my Camaro keys aren't on any keyring. If I put a keyring on them, the other keys hit my knees when I go through high speed corners.

If you're going to wreck your car, you report it stolen immediately, not hours after. If you report your car stolen, and then they find it wrapped around a tree, it draws nice straight lines for the cops.

It really sounds like he feels like his baby would still be here had he been more vigilant about the keys more than anything. Imagine how much you would be beating yourself up if you think your car getting wrecked was your fault?

In any case, making baseless accusations when you have no idea what's going on? Kind of a dick move.

Weren't these "baseless accusations" reported by the OP?
We agree someone "borrowed" the keys while the OP was at a party.

You repeated some stuff he said, and followed it up with an intimation that he committed insurance fraud. That's the baseless accusation. You have no idea what went down, you just don't like the way it sounds.

Which is cool... but on the very real chance that he's just has his baby broken by some douchebag, touting your theory that he's a criminal is kind of a dick move, don't you think?

My opinion does not meet the legal definition of being an accusation. I just reported the facts and based my opinion thereof. It's up to the reader to decide what the facts intimates.

It doesn't have to be a legal accusation to make it a dick move ...

Sounds like we having a disagreement in semantics. Your factual based opinion intimates through accusation that I'm a dick.

Looks like the passenger side airbag went off so you may be looking for two thieves...

BTW, having been in a high speed accident before the spider cracking on the windshield is from the airbag not the persons head...

Why would OP think any of us would care if he 'DID' commit insurance fraud? I'm pretty sure if that was his intention, he wouldn't post it all over a forum. Doesn't matter if he was trying to hide it or not... That's usually not the first thing that runs through people's minds. "Hey friend, I'm going to commit insurance fraud and crash my own vehicle, then post it on the internet for everyone to see! Sound good?" Some people just don't give the OP enough credit. Just because the story doesn't make sense to you, doesn't make it false. He may not know exactly how to describe it, or put it into words. Ever thought of a joke in your head and it was funny, until you said it outloud? Kinda the same thing here...

"How did the vegetable solve his math problem?"
"ALGE-BROCCOLI!" (algebraically)"
(original joke... don't steal it. I'm proud of it. )
