TSP Headers Clearance Problem...eventually fixed...

I had Texas Speed's 1 7/8" headers with no cats installed to pair with my Flowmaster AMT catback about a month back and ever since I've had a small rattling problem. It's not the typical tunnel brace issue but instead the passenger side header was hitting the frame rail It would only happen when I make left turns, veer left, and sometimes braking downhill.

Upon further inspection it looked like the header was almost sitting on the frame (maybe 1/16-1/8" clearance). I contacted Jason at TSP and he asked me some questions which I answered but then I never heard from him after

So, I brought it to the friendly folks at Vengeance Racing and they were able to open up the clearance to nearly half an inch using a pry bar, some heat, and brute force and the rattling went away.

Just wanted to give a heads up in case anyone else sees this issue.

Ss, atleast from a component install mine were more than perfect. I did have to grind a few ugly welds, as I said before, I would gladly grind a few cosmetically ugly welds and save 500+. U should be fine. Tsp stuff has served me well. I am installing a cam and pulley from them tomorrow on top of the tsp cai. I generally like their products I just wish they would send me my tshirt already!

Mine had to be dimpled as well on install because they were right up againist the frame as you explain.

I only have about a 1/8" clearance right now and they do rub on a left turn and still need to be dimpled more so the rattle goes away.

Other than that I love my new headers and the sound is awesome. Mine are coupled with a Solo Mach XL and J-Pipes.

Awesome setup!!

In the end I got way more than what I paid for comparatively. Awesome sound, awesome power, and from what I understand many others don't see this problem.

All in all it wasn't even that much of a hassle to fix.

Glad to hear your up & running with good results. We haven't had any people other than RedRyder complain of hitting in this area. Out of nearly 100 sets sold I think these things are doing very well.

I have the same problem on my with 2" header hitting frame on pass side. Driving me nuts. Guess I will try to pull it off this weekend and dimple it.

At first mine didn't rattle and then all of a sudden it started making all kinds of noise at the same spot. And we fixed it the same way. It only cost a case of beer to fix, so I'm still ahead money wise.

I have the TSP 2" headers and have no clearance issues whatsoever. from everything i have read your problem is most likely stemming from the factory engine mount tolerances. loosen up the mounts, shift the motor over slightly and re tighten. i would do this long before i dimpled my headers. hope this helps someone!

One year and zero issues. Your engine was probably just off a bit. Loosen motor mounts slide it over and re tighten. The factory has specs that the engine needs to meet. Not everyone is in the exact same location which is why some have issues and some don't. You get what you pay for isn't the case here. Kooks, SP p fadt all expensive brands, do a search and will find someone somewhere bit***** that their headers are defective and are hitting. Your car was prolly assembled on a Friday

i had the same problem it was barley clearing the frame on the passenger side and would make that annoying rattling sometimes at a stop. dimpled it with a pry bar and a little heat. love the way it sounds well worth the price.

I got the tsp 2" and they rubbed on the passenger side frame rail and on the steering knuckle. Had to dimple two tubes on the drivers side and one on the passengerside. Other than that I think they are great. Have also heard not everyone has clearance problems so I attribute this to gm assembly tolerances. Im extremely happy with the tsp product its a great product.
