I would like to also think it has something to do with how one drives the car as well.

At the moment i'm down to 0 hp...snapped an ARP balancer bolt in the crank (i started another thread for advice). I think i'm going to stay where i am once i get things running, unless of course i have to pull the crank...maybe that's a sign to upgrade my bottom end now ....what a crappy day...

Close to to 700 here and might be over in a few days. Everytime I drive the car I drive it hard and its still kicking. All credit to my shop and tuner for keeping it together until I build it.

Nope. Everyone keeps saying boost numbers, it's not boost that kills a motor. It's straight hp, cylinder pressure. On my setup, I can run 18psi and 200 shot easy, like 1000whp is fine; but if I had 1psi of boost and some ungodly 1500 NA hp, it'd let go (unrealistic number I know). Your motor can handle 550-600whp, anyone that has higher than that can come prove me wrong, in a year. Look at GM, ZL1 has similar internals as the LS3, but the 640hp ZR1 is forged.

No problem, when you were talking about it I remembered I read the article just a few days ago.

We have found that the power a stock LSx engine can handle is directly related to octane used more so then a vague question of what can it handle.
We have literally 100's of stock bottom end cars over 700 RWHP with LS1/LS6/LS2/LS3 and LS7 engines with great longevity. Yes some fail, but the % is very small and almost every time it was fuel related/detonation problem. Pump failing, bad gas, or being ran too hard without proper recommended fuel in the car. Meth injection is a great way to have octane on demand and substantially opens the door for how much power a stock engine can handle while still being reasonable to drive daily. So basically add the octane, and you can raise the power the stock engine can safely handle dramatically. One of our leading examples of stock bottom ends lasting is on a 2003 LS1 Corvette that holds the stock bottom end record @ 9.33/148 in a full weight car with over 1400 passes on the original engine. Secret weapon? OCTANE! always ran on 100 in the tank and meth injection. Hopefully that saves one of you an engine. Doug @ ECS |

I read the article and now I'm scared to install my "red" Maggie and headers along with other things to hit around 560RWHP (Ted's Street Brawler pkg)! I don't want my motor or rear end or clutch or tranny to go for a s**t. The supercharger will be installed by a mechanic with 20yrs+ racing car experience and me as the helper. I will be getting Ted to do the tuning, so I know I don't have to worry about that aspect.

Motor will handle it, just a matter of time though. Rear end and clutch.... eh, whats another 5k?
