Not necessarily true. You "hear" a lot of things, but until you do the mods, check the AFR either on a dyno or street and do some scanning on your own you are only passing on the opinions of others that haven't done any verification either. Certainly not an uncommon thing.

Not sure if this is true but I have heard of shops that will re flash if you have any issues prior to going to dealer for warranty issues. Also Gm will cover the car with the Tune unless your problem was specifically caused by the Tune and such.

i dont think you can do any mods without doing a good tune. Air in Air out is what a car is all about. If the cpu doesnt know what to do with it your throwing your money away.

Not much you can do without a tune. The mustang is geared better then the camaro, which is why its a little quicker. I have heard of some guys having a dealer install the factory 3.91's and recalibrating the speedo. This should retain your warranty and get the results your looking for.

Well it depends which gears the stang has. The 3.31's and 3.15's felt pretty tired. The 3.55's and 3.73's were nice. I have had them all. In the end I had 3.73's and a conservative Ford racing tune(which pinged btw). The first 3 gears pulled hard between 3k rpms and 6500ish. It would spin all through 1st and second, sometimes third. Anyway, I honestly didn't realize how much speed I was giving up going from a 5.0 to the L99 If I had belonged to this site prior and had done more research I probably wouldn't have swapped. But it was it is. I'll be upside down for a good year to year and a half before I can trade to something else. This L99 SS is better looking, smooth and nice compared to the 5.0. It has a much better low-mid torquey feel (than a stock 5.0)but when you really open it up it's no 5.0. Looks like I'm going need a tune minimum to be overall happy with this car. |

Intake, long tubes, and a tune (good tune from a skilled tuner) = fast car for an L99. I know a several guys that are running 12.3s - 12.4s with just those 3mods (stock wheels and tires, etc)
I ran 12.16 @ 114.95 mph with basic bolt ons and 20" wheels using Drag Radials (no weight reduction). The 5.0 might have an advantage, but that doesn't mean you can't make an L99 A6 fast with some basic mods. |

A tune, intake and possibly gears should be enough to wake her up (I hope). I rarely go to the track anymore(maybe 1-2 times a year)I just want an overall quicker feel for my daily driving needs. Last edited by L99BEN; 01-02-2013 at 03:40 PM. |

All my 5.0 friends run good with bolt-ons too, and were not really quicker stock (auto to auto).
Maybe you should do a gear and a cold air, or just leave it alone and get something else.

If your going to tune you might want to seriously consider LT headers. I think Texas Speed has some that are really cheap but good quality. Those headers are only a little more expensive than a CAI. If your on a budget and are never going to get serious with the mods I think you should look into CAI inc with Race scoop, Texas Speed LT headers, GM 1LE 3.91 gears and a tune. Those mods would really wake up a L99 but not cost a arm and a leg.
