Sold the Challenger.

After 17 months and 48,400 miles..I am no longer a Challenger owner. I was getting tired of repairing the car (the bumper cover is quite fragile, went through two of them) and less than amazing fuel economy (average combined of 19)..I called it quits yesterday.

Instead, I traded it and bought a 2011 Dodge Avenger Heat. While a big drop in HP (375ish to 283) and torque (410 ftlb down to 260), I picked up quite a bit of fuel economy (4+ MPG highway and 3+ city), an extra gear ( 6spd vs 5) and shed over 500 pounds (4100 vs 3600).

Pics to follow, its a great little car with plenty of power. At least I'll still get to race.........in sport compact.

ugh.

But in time I will be able to get another muscle car, but times and cash flow has dictated a change, and I have obeyed.

Love live the muscle car.

Sorry to hear that,...I know you loved the car though.

Well.....let me throw this out there before someone else does.

Since you no longer own a muscle car, ....or any kind of "performance" car, does this mean your going to stop posting on Camaro5?

Just asking.

I'd hate to be parted with my Camaro, especially with how much money I put into it. I'd die.

Is that the updated Avenger? They did a pretty decent job on that MCE.

the money you lost on the challenger probably isnt gonna be made back up by the gas savings of the new car. Should have kept the challenger. You used about 2,547 gallons of gas. In that same time frame the avenger would have consumed about 2,151 gallons. The new car will save you about $900 a year which sounds good but you also take a serious hit in depreciation over the first couple years on a new car so it might be a couple years before you even start making money on this thing.

You are 110% right but most people don't think about that! They prefer to cut off their nose to spite their face!

I heard a nasty rumor that gas could and I emphasize COULD hit $6 a gallon this summer. Ouch that 91 is gonna be even more.

Yeah its the updated one. The interior is really 110% better than the old Avenger.

And the cost of the Challenger was primarily in repair. I hit a raccoon a few weeks back..and tore the lower spoiler off and cracked the bumper cover. Yes..a simple animal did 1600 dollars of damage.

The simple fact is that I couldnt afford to keep shelling out insurance deductibles over and over again every time something happened. This was after I had a semi-tire blow out and send the tread into the front of the car at 75 MPH (that was August, $1000 bucks gone of my share of a 2200 dollar repair) and before that after someone backed into the car and left it in a parking lot (again, $1000 of about 1900). That combined with new tires in Sept..I spent nearly $3000 in just repairs.

And yeah..I may regret this later, but oh well. Such is life, I had to do the right thing now.
