Repairs to Carbon Fiber Insert

Hi folks,

I have an exposed carbon fiber insert that needs some repair after being exposed to extreme sun and heat (Arizona) for a long period of time, as well as some small scratches and peeling of the clear coat. Can anyone recommend anyone they have worked with in the New England/Northeast Area who has experience working with ECF and can do great work. Thanks, Kevin C.

I have some cancer spots in mine and was wondering the same thing. Do you have any pics you can post for comparison? My thought was that it can be sanded and clear coated but I dont know anything about carbon fiber.

I've got similar issues, though not that pronounced, on my hood insert and spoiler. I can only assume it is due to the clearcoat naturally being thinner on the edges, since that's where it is happening. Pretty much being "sanded" by driving as far as I can tell on mine. I believe the proper fix is an epoxy/binder coat on the raw sanded piece, followed by sanding again and appropriate UV clear coating.

Mine was smooth on top at first and then became rough to the touch which made me think it oxidized underneath from a hot spot or something. Maybe it did and then made its way to the surface, not sure.

The clear coat on mine is peeling on the edges too. Bothers me every time I look at it. Really need to get it redone.

Wish I had some before pics but mine was also pealing on the front edges and had a pretty big area right at the front point. My ZL1 only had 20K on it when I bought it but the paint and Carbon Fiber was clearly showing the affect of sitting out under the baking sun of Florida it's entire life.

I brought it to NY and it was in need of some serious paint, plastic, and Carbon Fiber correction. After months and month of elbow grease I got the paint and plastic to a point I was pretty happy with but the Carbon Fiber had some issues...

I used that BS Scratch Remover Pen that never works on removing your scratches, but got dam it worked miracles on the Carbon Fiber.
Did a really good job of hiding the pealing and to bring back the gloss and shine. These things dont work on scratches but you might want to give it a try on the Carbon Fiber, worked for me...

Bogey, you are not alone, I have a spot on mine that is almost exactly like your probably was not too long ago. Mine will be just like yours in the near future.

Let us know how the pen works out for you.
