drilling out cats to do or not to do
so first is there a disadvantage to drilling out high flow cats over running the off road mid pipes besides the work to do it and second how are you guys drilling them out just a big drill bit and going to town or any other secrets to doing this.

No advantage to be had IMO. Just get some off road pipes and be done with it. You can then sell you CAT's, make a few bucks or hold them in case you move to a place that does emissions testing.

I cut the connections to my Kooks high flow cats and welded a pipe the same size as it was previously.

ya I have them posted for sale but if they dont sell in the next few days I am probably just going to drill them out

Mine didn't sell and even if they did I would've just got what the off road pipes would of cost. Which was fine with me but then I would've had to wait for shipping and what not. I just cut them and was on my way

Ya Dark thats the same delima I am in if they sell it will be for enough to buy off road pipes, or i could just drill/punch out my cats now put them on and be done with it. I just dont want the car to sound bad I am not sure how hollowed out high flow cats will change the sound over some off road pipes.

Those cats are expensive, need a loan just to buy them. Just replace with a pipe use the cash for a mod.

ya I already had the cats previous owner put them on when he did the exhaust no way I would have paid for them, I ordered the off road pipes to put in there they where 250 I am not sure how much an exhaust shop would have charged to match a pipe up to my headers since its flanged I figure i would have been 200 deep pretty quick if they would have done it so I will just roll with the off road pipe for now and keep my cats for down the road.

Just get a piece of pipe. Taking them to a metal recycler would get you enough to not justify drilling them out. Cats aren't cheap.

The only reason to use the hollowed out carcasses would be to pass a "visual" test at your next inspection. If that's not necessary, sell them for what you can get, and put o/r pipes in their place.
