JANNETTY RACING ZL-1 NO TUNE PULLEY ROTOFAB TESTING RESULTS

Pay Very close attention because I don't want to lose anyone.

We learned a lot today some of it good some of it not so good.

It is in the Mid 40s here today so I wanted to re baseline the car with just the 10% overdrive with logging and found 2 things out pretty quick THESE TIRES SUCK IN COLD WEATHER and traction on the dyno was an issue that proved to be hard to overcome.

This reduced Measurable torque which translates into, HP Torque X RPM / 5252 = HP.

Where in warmer weather we had 510 RWHP and 510 RWTQ we cam up with 506 RWHP and 490 RWTQ due to tire slippage, but at least it was repeatable over and over again.

Now Some of this I can also attribute to Learning down to the Low octane table due to the added boost, I had driven the car around a bit and also refueled today before we went on the dyno.

So, on to the Rotofab CAI, The Quality Fit and Finish if Fantastic especially with the Carbon Fiber Coating.

The Fuel Trims are Perfect I put about 10 miles on the dyno with load cycling up and down the MAF Curve, Very Impressive.

WOT the AFR Repeated the Stock Air Box again Very Impressive made 6 pulls.

Boost Gain up 1 PSI to 1.2 PSI at the top.

Here is the BAD News, We Are Up Against the ALL MIGHTY HP LIMITER, OCTANE!!!

With manifold pressure reaching 12 psi on the stock tune knock retard became a Problem with the 10% overdrive pulley and Rotofab Cold Air kit combined, I will come back to this.

This intake by it self will be very good easily in the 30 RWHP RANGE, WAIT TILL THE END BEFORE YOU DRAW A CONCLUSION.

So I re installed the 5% pulley with the Rotofab CAI and Made another 6 pulls and repeated the 514 RWHP with less knock retard, AGAIN OCTANE IS LIMITING US HERE NOT THE PARTS

10.4 PSI is about all the stock tune will tolerate.

OK, back to the 10% pulley, Rotofab and a can of TORCO to near full tank, making about 97 octane, 541 RWHP 528 RWTQ.

This Graph reading from the bottom up is STOCK, VS 5% PULLEY VS 10% PULLEY VS 10% PULLEY ROTOFAB CAI WITH TORCO.

So in conclusion the parts are doing everything promised providing we have the octane.

We are looking for NO Tune Options this is a GREAT PACKAGE

Ted.

So what were the HP/TQ numbers with the 5% OD pulley and the CAI, and is this a combo that can be ran without a tune? Will knock retard hurt the motor? In Cali, the highest pump octane we have is 91 octane.

A Little confusing.

Question 1.

Can the 10% pulley in combination with the Roto Fab be used without throwing a code?

Question 2.

What is the gain from baseline?

Question 3

Same questions as above but with the 5% pulley?

All testing was done on 93 octane until we added TORCO

Power was 514 with 5 % and Rotofab

On 91 octane I suggest only a 5% over pulley Without a tune

Ted,
I'd like to see the HP Tuners scan with just the 10% overdrive pulley. I'd like to see what the timing advance was at WOT. I have the 8.6 inch ring on order from you guys. I would hate to think it was a waste of money.

Hi Ted,

So can we do the 10% on 93 octane with the CAI without throwing a code and what would be the gain from baseline?

Thanks,

Ron

Looking at the other tread, 510hp with the 10%.

Looks like it would be best to do one part or the other at this point.

I will buy a 5 gallon bucket of TORCO not a problem.

- I am assuming knock retard is when the motor automatically pulls timing due to detonation? If the motor automatically compensates for the knock, then do we have to worry about anything?

- So what you are saying is we can install the 10% OD pulley and the CAI, run 97 octane (via TORCO additive) and get about an 80rwhp increase over base WITHOUT a tune and WITHOUT hurting the motor?

So with 92 I'm better off with a 5% pulley and te roto fab intake. 10% would start pulling timing due to knock retard?

Ted, I will be calling you in the morning. The CF option is not on your web site yet.

93 octane with ethanol, or 93 octane w/o ethanol?

I'd imagine that going to a larger cam would allow more fuel to be used for cooling. I wonder if going to a larger cam with increased overlap and slightly decreased LSA will give you a little more room to put some timing back in it before knocking??
