Is Hill Assist on the ZL1?
Looked briefly using search, but didn't quickly find a thread regarding this.
I would hope that this doesn't even exist on the ZL1...however I really don't know for sure.

It does and it's a little unsettling when it first happens and catches you off guard. You start letting the clutch out, but it doesn't grab like usual due to brake pressure being applied. Once you get used to it coming on it does make it easier only working the clutch and accelerator. No worries about rolling backwards or having to quick foot from brake to gas. Not sure how long it gives/holds you, I'll try that out to see what happens. Just how long will it hold the brake.

It doesn't bother me in the slightest. It didn't take very long to adjust to it and now I hardly notice it. But then again it all depends on how hilly it is where YOU are.

Hill assist feels a bit odd at first, but I'm used to it. It's a very handy option to have.

I wish it didn't. I don't like it. Mine waits about 2 seconds from the time I take my foot off the brake pedal before it releases the brakes. Unless I give it a lot of gas to overcome the brakes, then when the brakes release the car jumps forward. Unfortunately I live in a hilly area.
It should be designed to release the brakes as soon as the gas pedal is pressed. There are a number of threads about HSA. |

+1 I have stalled the car a couple of times because of it. Yes it's embarassing and yes people have laughed, can't blame them I would to. I'd think to myself that the person can't drive stick and buys a car like this. |

I haven't checked the manual to see if you can shut it off. Would be nice to have the option, on or off, owners preference. I personally like it now that I have used it and gotten use to how it feels. Still have to check how long the brake holds, I can't imagine its for more than five or six seconds, which means you could always fool the system. Just like when the DIC tells me to shift from first to forth, I just give it a little more gas and it disappears and I just shift into second like always.

I think it holds for about two seconds. Pretty easy to adjust to it as the lights are changing and traffic ahead of you starts moving. Another thread on the topic suggested pulling the e-brake up a single click will disengage the hold, and that works, though the car does ring a bell at you while you drive with the brake engaged.
Also just a note about stalling... If you stall then it's likely that you're still on the hill that activated the system in the first place, so the hill hold will re-engage for another two seconds after you retart, so everybody around you gets a really good chance to look, point, and laugh. Unfortunately I learned about that before learning the e-brake trick. And yes, I would love it if it disengaged when the car began to move forward. Or, failing that, an option to turn it off. -Chris |
