Price markup in Canada on the ZL1?

When I was looking into buying a Camaro I took a good long look at the ZL1. Great car with lots of performance and power. If you build one on the GM.ca website you can get one with a couple of options available for about $63,000 CANADIAN DOLLARS.

However, if you go to a dealer website they are asking $75,000 for the exact same car. So the dealers here (in Alberta anyways) are asking for a premium of $12,000...and they are not moving on that price. (Not when I asked).

So to my friends south of the border in the USA, are you seeing a premium over the MSRP for the ZL1? And if so, how much?

It is because of this price jump that I decided to go with the Hot Wheels Edition 2SS.

Mhoskins, depends on the dealership, I know mine doesn't sell over MSRP.

I paid MSRP. Bought mine here in B.C. Buy it in the US though, its cheaper and they aren't scammers like GM Canada. In Canada GM decided to keep the hood rebate instead of issuing it to qualified ZL1 buyers because they felt they were already doing them a favor by selling them the car. Its a very poor attiude, and shows the customer service difference between the two countries. Also, buy any parts you need from the U.S. too as GM Canada has up to 7 times the mark up on the parts up here.

I found most Alberta dealers very greedy. I think there are a few who are decent to deal with but I haven't found one. Some U.S dealers are selling at invoice or better now. I got mine in the height of the craz last July for well under MSRP in the U.S. It is a piece of cake to import and you can save 10-15 grand in the process.

THIS! Find a dealer that's not an a**hole and you'll get a deal. Some do, some don't.

I'm guessing what drives the prices higher here is the limited availability of the car in Canada. Dealers are only getting allocated so many per year. Supply is low, demand is high. Jack the prices up and people will still pay for it to get the car.

It's not just Canada. Here in California (bay area especially) dealers are asking $10-$20k over sticker and getting it.

I was one of the poor souls that paid over, not $10k though. Oh well. Love the car. Didn't have to jump through hoops to buy out of state and my order was very smooth. I consider it a convenience fee. And I consider the dealers here CROOKS!!!

I know an eastern dealership that will order (when an allocation is available!!) and drop-ship it in Ft. McMurray for you...@ MSRP.

There's close to $5Gs difference, US to Canada, for an SS...there's less than $3Gs difference for a Base ZL1, which you'll burn in (current) exchange, RIVA fees and Excise Tax (and the US GG tax that isn't refundable, and the warranty has a 6-mo./7,500 mi. disclaimer).

Think about it...the ZL1 is one of very few "deals" available from GM-Canada, certain dealers aside...

I got my car from competition chev in stony plain Alberta. It was the only 12' they got. I was there when they unloaded it off the carrier. The window sticker said $63,080, they never asked for a penny more. I'm sure they had a lot of customers that bought more vehicles from them that wanted it ( my first GM vehicle in 16 years ). The car was sold to me because I left my name and number 8 month before expressing my interest in the car I heard GM was talking about building. They kept my name all that time and gave me first chance at the car. I saw the list in the general managers office, it was a full page!

And that is probably why they are asking way over MSRP now. You got lucky in that you were on the list way in advance. But now...not so much. LOL

I got mine in the US for $50 over invoice, but had to shop around for that - some dealers wanted over MSRP but not that many here in FL

Funny thing though, they got a 13' CRT 6M right before Christmas, my salesman phoned me( asked if I wanted one for my wife LOL. The guy that ordered it got tired of waiting and bought a 45 anniversary vert. The car sat in the showroom for a week at MSRP. A dealer from Vancouver bought it off them. I put a post on the Canadian forum in December but must be a bad time of year for a car that the tires fall apart on if they get cold.
