2010-2015 Camaro ss, 2016 Camaro ss, older corvette, or 2014+ corvette?
Hey guys (and gals), I'm looking to move up in the engine world and get a v8 when I bought my v6 I couldn't afford anything else. Now I've almost got it paid off and want to get something different. I plan on maybe keeping it because it's my daily driver. I've got almost 100,000 miles on it. No problems so far. I've been looking for a few months... I've got $10,000 to put down on whatever I choose. By the time I go to actually make a deal I'll probably have like $20,000. I love the 2010-2013 body style of Camaro. But I'm afraid of getting one..and it being too old..I guess that's what you'd say by the time I go to get 1.. So I thought well a 2014-2015 would be good! The 2016 ss I can't say I'd be completely happy with it but damn I love the interior. (I'm more about sound and looks than anything) a buddy of mine starting talking to me about corvettes.. He has a 2011 I think. It's a little out of date interior wise which I would want to replace seats and stuff Like you can put recaros in an older style (2011) Camaro like mine. The newest corvettes are really high in price and I feel like I couldn't afford it.. But if it was worth it maybe I could save more?
I have seen older corvettes 2009-2013 go for $30-40,000 New ones go for $60,000 And camaros from 2010-2016 for $20-50,000 So if you had the choice...what would you decide??,,, (keep in mind I MIGHT daily it))) |

I would look at a 2013 or 2014. Finding one with low miles and good price may not be that difficult. Then you would have more funds to really add some performance/hp if you wanted.

Oh and performance isn't an issue..I'm coming from a v6 so anything v8 will be plenty for me to handle...

I'd test a 2016 ss at the dealership Before pulling the trigger on anything else . They have come along way in terms of power and comfort

Daily driver with no mods...i would buy a 12-13 SS cash if you have the 20k. With the 17's coming out later this year the gen5's will be heavily discounted. New car and no monthly payments. I notice your in TX... careful of the flood damaged cars when buying.

Ya the only mods I would probably do would be CAI and exhaust. I mostly like to upgrade interior and exterior

Get a used stingray, that's the next step up from a v6 hahah. But seriously, if you are in a position to get a Corvette DO IT! I'm having a difficult time deciding if I want a c7 vette or c6 camaro. It's probably going to come down to a coin flip.

Well I know I could afford a used corvette but I've seen the new corvette prices... $60,000-$80,000. Around where I live you can snag a used Camaro ss for $21,000. But my buddy's corvette is so sick! The sound is amazing... But the interior definitely is out dated

Move up to a 10-15 SS Camaro. If miney is even a bit of an issue don't get a Vette everything on them costs more.

I wouldn't listen to opinions on here really since your gonna get a lot of bias. I would test drive both Camaro Gens and see what you prefer and can afford. I personally like the 5th gen's looks a bit better but there are good merrits for the 2016 as well such as the interior, power, handling. So it's up to what you like and can afford. Both are awesome so you can't go too wrong. But the 2016 is gonna cost you way more than a slightly used 5th Gen. You can modify a lot for the price diff. I saved $20K here in Canada by buying a 3yr old Camaro with only 12,000miles on it (lady driven which I'm not sure is good or bad). Hasn't given me any problems except the convertible top which is now fixed.

Well I just don't know if I'll be happy with a 2016 Camaro ss. I test drove one and I'm not gonna lie,,,it's fast and a lot better than my v6..but I just don't like that rear end. If I'm going to spend $46,000 on a car I want to like it.. I haven't driven a corvette my buddy may let me take his for a spin so I can test it out. I also don't want to put myself in a hole on a corvette..I already am familiar with camaro

Good question Gee.
It depends, I think the biggest question here is do you really favor the warranty or not? Warranty favored? Yes - Get a newer model like a 14/15 and be happy for the next few years. No - Get a 11/12 and mod the heck out of it and have fun. I'm curious though, what else are you considering in buying this car? Like I understand it'll be a DD and going from a V6 to V8 with a CAI and exhaust with full warranty in tact will be enough for you. But what else are you thinking? |
