I personally prefer the sound of an x-pipe but purposely avoided the resonated x-pipe for the very reason the OP mentioned. I've changed my exhaust setup many times and finally settled on something I really like. I currently have Kooks 2" headers with faux cats (I fabed some straight through resonators that bolt in place of the cats), BBK 2.75" X-pipe which actually replaces the exhaust from behind the cats to in front of the mufflers. My previous setup was Kooks 1 7/8" headers with cats and the Magnaflow regular x-pipe and stock 2.5" exhaust. The new set up has a slightly deeper tone and less rasp and is no louder (actually slightly quieter) which I measured using a decibel meter app.

This is something also to consider. Changing the run from the header to the stock mufflers with all 3" pipe. I wonder what that would sound like?

I haven't been back on the dyno after doing the Magnaflow x-pipe but, for what it's worth, my 60' times at the track are the same as before.

My car is a good bit louder than yours, and I have the xpipe. I do have my fuse to the flaps pulled though. My car was way too loud with headers and no cats. I think it's perfect now with the xpipe, maybe it's the cam, I don't know.

Because it's T304 Stainless steel
And designed for better flow than the cheap ones.

I noticed the length of the middle portion of the "x" where the two converge is quite a bit longer than others and that's all that I could think. I really do like it, but not sure if I want to justify spending that much for the design and not knowing what the hp/tq curves look like compared to others. Other T304 stainless pipes going for right about $100 give or take a few.

The benefit of our resonated X's is that they give a deeper tone, and help the guys running aggressive exhaust setups to keep a tolerable volume for daily driving. If you want your car to be louder and don't plan to modify your catback, a non-resonated may work better. We offer 2 different styles:
Part # 10781 (2.5")

Part # 10791 (2.5")

Made from T304? For $100? I doubt it. Just because it's says stainless doesn't mean it's the good stuff.

Sorry, but you're correct. The one I looked at uses 400 series SS. And let's not turn this into a SS discussion. I'm ok with 400 series, excellent product.

I just installed Kooks headers with off-road pipes and it's a bit too loud at WOT. Do you have any flyby video clips with the resonated x pipe?

Magnaflow offers 2 different sizes of resonated x pipes....5x8x18......5x11x22. The larger one really quiets down the car. If you want to keep your car louder without rasp and also give it a deeper tone get the smaller one. I have the tru x on my car with hi flow cats and muffler delete. I'm going with the smaller resonated x pipe in the spring. Imo my car is a little to high pitched with some rasp.

The rasp is what I wanted to get rid of, and I installed the smaller of the 2 resonated x-pipes. I still feel that it is too quiet. FYI, I'm running 2" ARH, cat delete pipes and NPP.
