Sadly, my 2013 1LE got hit today.

A distracted driver in a Toyota Sienna ran a red light and hit me at approximately 50 -55mph today. I don't really know the extent of the damage yet, I was too shook up and there was way too much traffic to inspect it at the time.

The van hit me directly on the passenger side rear wheel and door pillar. The impact sent me into a tail spin and my driver side rear wheel hit the curb hard enough to fold it under the car.... no pic of it yet. My rim broke the curb in the process. The attending officer also told me later at the hospital that my driver side hit a concrete traffic control device at some point. I wasn't hurt too badly, just bruised up a bit.

I will say that the car took the impact very well considering the speed of the van. None of the airbags deployed at any time.

I know that both rear quarters took damage, both rear rims are broken, and I think that the rear cradle was racked.

This was my dream car and before today there was not a single scratch or dent.

It is a sad day.

Sorry to hear that man. I'm glad you're alright. It looks like she took the brunt of the hit and kept you safe. You have to hand it to GM, these cars are great. I hope it all works out. ZL1 or z28 upgrade if they total her?

If not another 1LE, maybe a ZL1.

I'm conflicted about whether or not to push for the total. I hate that the car will be branded on vehicle history reports. I know that this kind of damage can severely harm it's value.

Does anyone know if insurance companies account for the diminished value of the vehicle when settling with a claimant?

No, I wrote off a BMW M Coupe, which is why I'm a 1LE owner now. Purely math, current values of car based on their resales value databases, and a hard percentage of expected repairs. If if goes over the magic 70~75% of their market value, you get a check. If not, they write checks to the shops you use, but to your point, the car will be flagged with this history when you resell and the car may never be perfect. There were only 7 BMW in the color I owned, it was highly desirable, I got them to do another value assessment and it came back higher, in the end I was glad they wrote if off, I didn't want the anxiety that something else would fail later due to the accident, but not be able to prove it. Even the shop and insurance guy told me the car would never be the same. I hope yours is minimal and bolt on fixes. If you have wheel insurance, file that as a separate claim, it will help the primary insurance coverage ratio numbers and save you some money to invest in goodies. Example, maybe it needs a new cradle, while they are there, upgrade with all new BMR trailing arms, bushings, sway bars etc... cheaper than oem. Make .Lemonade. Don't be quick to sign any heath claims since you were hurt, those guys will want to throw a few hundred buck for pain and suffering, don't take it. Get a lawyer and play hard ball.

My son is a PI attorney. You need to talk to one. Even if you aren't physically injured (and understand that it is too early to tell for sure), you are already suffering from the mental anguish of having your dream car destroyed and nearly being killed. At the very least, this Toyota driver's insurance company should be happy to put you in the new car of your choosing.
