But in support of the spirit of what you were getting at with your post, I remember posts here second guessing a race with the newer Goats or the 370Zs. With those I can confirm, regardless of the venue, that my SS in it's current configuration can, and has spanked both of those cars no contest (although I confess I don't know what year the GTO was and the performance of those can vary a bit by production year). I did however have some trouble with an SVT Cobra who pulled on me, but I wasn't in competition mode so I was pulling timing between shifts and yet he only pulled on me slowly and steadily - it should also be noted that he had crazy drag radials on the car and it was clearly built. I thought he'd smoke me no contest, but it didn't happen that way.

With that said, people try to discredit the SS because of it's hefty curb weight, but those people are just looking for a criticism to levy. But I haven't had too much experience with a Vette of any notoriety against my SS....
Competition mode changes absolutely nothing with timing in your computer. It ONLY changes launch control features...

just look at the two cars. one is from the 90s and the other is modern. there comes a point where i simply would take new vs old look. even if numbers are the same

This might be a little off the topic, but a C5 vette IMHO is one of the absolute best budget platforms for modding. The LS1 is still a great engine, it's reliable, and has a lot of potenital. One can find late 90s C5s for well under $20K and $10K in mods can go a long long way on both the engine and the suspension/tires. You can turn a C5 vette into a lot of car for less than $30K.

Very true but the same could be said for a 4th gen F-body. You can get a 4th gen for 10K put 20k worth of mods in it and have a easy 10 sec car.

True, money has nothing to do with it! I have had 2 4th gens and a C5 and there is NO FREAKIN WAY I would ever go back to either car over this! The 4th gens are loose rattle traps and skiddish with very cheap interior!! Nice looking car and light wieght, but thats not ever gonna get me back in one! The C5 is a awesome car hands down, but its now old and I just love this 5th gen... If and when my SS goes away, it will be for a nice used CTS V or a used C6 zo6 depending on were I am at in life. Anyway the SS over the C5 in my book.

I would never take C5 vette over a corvette. Now a C6 would be a different story if the right one came up. C5s aren't that fast in today's terms.

In the last 14 years I owned a 1987 auto vette, 1996 LT4 CE Z51 vette and a 2002 Z06 and now the '11 SS RS Camaro. The L98 with only 240 hp was no competition for the other cars. The Lt4 dynoed at 356 hp at the crank and and made its power between 5000 And 6000 rpms. It did not have tons of low end torque. The Z06 had lots of low end grunt as does the Camaro. The Camaro reminds me a lot of the Z06 . The LS6 was a great motor as is the LS3. The Z06 accelerated faster because of its weight vs the heavier Camaro. They both have that great decel popping sound that I like. So the Camaro is similar in low end grunt to the Z and has a rear seat which I wanted for the grand kids.

Click on the My Toys link if you would like to see the cars.

What about the fun factor?

Most posts are about which is faster, but what about the driving experience?
I ask because I have a '15 2SS/RS convertible. My buddy is a Corvette enthusiast, owns a C2 & a high end body shop. I was visiting with him last Friday & mentioned that I was on the way to check out a base C5 as a second vehicle. He asked the reason, since my Camaro is just as fun to drive as a C5 & I don't go to the track. It got me wondering if I'd be making a wise purchase.

The fun factor is there with a C5 Vette. I had a '02 and loved it. Wish I still had it but Im looking at getting a C7 in the next few years. If you like the low sitting sports car feel, then I would suggest getting a C5.
