Switchblade key fob non camaro

My daughters car wouldn't start this morning. She dropped the keys and broke the fob and was trying to start it with just the metal key. Is there something in the fob that disables the ignition?

The transponder for the flip key is in the fob. If the transponder is damaged or not correctly positioned the car won’t start.
Does the spare key work? If so, it is fairly easy to program another transponder key after its cut by the dealer as long as you have one working key (spare).
You can also remove the switchblade key from the non-working fob and put it on a new fob and program that. Just need a working key.

Well I put the key back together and it started. Thanks, there may be a recall on it like on the Camaro I'll check it out.
