Rather have the FOB integrated on the key end like other companies have done.
I agree, but my Land Rover key only locks and unlocks- doesn't have trunk, remote start and other stuff on it. The switchblade key is probably as good as it gets considering all the functions it has.

I did not like ether. The first day I got the notice to bring it in to replace the fob and I did. 1/2 hr later it was done.

Bought 2 blanks from Midwest source on ebay, $16.
Gave the dealer my Znnnnn number from my original tag. Cut the blanks in 10 minutes: $20
Used old watch band pin, cut in two, one half for each: $0
Working switch blade key fob on my 2015 and 2 spare recall subs ... priceless.

BTW, the pin is 1/16, don't let the hole fool you without the blade inserted. Jams in nicely with the blade there.

Also, noticed a bit of lithium grease in the original key grooves, so I smeared a dab in there on the new ones.

I think a heavy paper clip would've done it too.

I had to persuade my dealership that the recall fix would actually endangered me while driving with a two piece set vs a single fob. They also tried to held my 4G/LTE/WIFI module from being upgraded until I completed the recall. I had to spend another 30 minutes on the phone with GM, in order for these guys to finally approach me and install it. It's funny how when there is no money to be made, they treat you like garbage.

Got the recall done today and was shocked that it was just a key swap. Well, a key-ectomy to the fob, not to mention reprogramming the key too. I left the dealer not even noticing what was done until I got home. I then panicked like most and hit this site quick. Posts 253 and 263 says it all. I put the key in vise and smacked the plastic with a flat head and hammer. The plastic top popped right off. What is left, the metal portion of the key fits right in the switch-blade thingy on the fob and is held in place by .062 "fowl" pin. I used an old mini screwdriver instead of a fowl pin which I jammed in place, tapped with a hammer. I then cut off the remainder with a dremel. 10 minutes was accurate. Kept other replacement key as is for service.

I just took delivery of a new 2015 RS. It came with two fobs and two keys. Both fobs are missing the key leaving the big empty slot where the key should rightfully be.

From what I am reading, the separate keys use the same blade as the switchblade fobs? I can remove the blade from the key and place it in the fob?

Yes you can cut the black plastic chevy piece off the key and stick it back in but you'll need a barrel pin to keep it stuck in there.

I will be placing a key in a vice tonight thank you. I am not interested in the GM fix for the gaping space in the fob. I want my switchblade back.

The fix for this is to just wait and buy a 2016 Camaro which will have keyless ignition and fix ALL the problems!

Or just swap the blade into the fob and install a small roll pin to hold it on. It's really easy.

oh my '13 2SS 1LE had the switch blade that I didn't love or hate and when I got my '15 1SS 1LE it came with 2 fobs and 2 keys. I thought it was just a 1SS thing haha. I don't mind key I just don't like the size of the fob. don't care if it has a key or not, it's just the size I don't care for. Glad I will ditch it when I install a alarm.
