Sorry, just being my usual smart-ass self!!! I have always said SS/RS, and it just seems odd to me to even hear it backwards....yes, I said it.....backwards!!! Maybe it just depends on what part of the country you grew up in??? Tomato/Tomato??? But, to each their own, call it whatever you like. I still have guys arguing with me at car shows that you can't have both an "SS" and a "RS", they say it has to be either one or the other!!! After a while, I just give up trying to explain the difference to these dumb-@$$#$!!!!

To me if you have a SS it's just SS...RS is just a trim. We know you have an SS with RS package due to the red SS emblems/halo lights. They purposely made the emblems red for that very reason. No need to add the RS emblem on top of it. It's not a specific model like the LS, LT, SS, ZL1. We don't put NPP badges on the car because you have the NPP optioned exhaust?

But if you want to do it, then do it! I like the way the guy up there added the SS/RS emblems on the side of his car.

This, since you own a 5th gen. Don't worry about what it used to be called it's no longer done that way.

I believe the OP was really looking for a historical reference to the Camaro line up. I'm not claiming I have that, but this thread made me dig out old Trusty. So I'll quote from Camaro Restoration Handbook by Tom Currao & Ron Sessions.

"1967 Another upgrade was the Rally Sport (RS) package, which included hideaway headlamps operated by electric motors, front valance-mounted parking lamps, rear valance-mounted backup lamps, safety-wired fuel-filler cap, RS identification (unless combined with the SS package), a special black-out grille and other specific trim. Camaros could be ordered with both SS and RS packages, the resulting car having hideaway headlamps, black-out grille and valance-mounted parking and backup lights, but otherwise SS trim, identification and running gear were dominant."

As always I say do what you want, but I interpret this as saying that a car with both SS and RS packages in 1967 would have just had the SS badge. I scanned, not studied, a little further in the book and didn't find any other year up to 1971 that had it any other way.

I want to add to my above post that for whatever reason, growing up I was used to hearing RS/SS and I have no idea why.

When I hear someone say SS/RS I think they are probably converted over Ford owners (I'm kidding, chill out). It's always been RS/SS since I was young (I had a 69 RS and the SS package was called an RS/SS back then).

I think the SS/RS is perfectly fine for the new generation cars though as a way to keep them from being lumped in with the 1st Gen, but I still don't call them that.

Interesting comments and some strong opinions for sure. I wanted to get some hood spears made and was curious if there was a factory badge...which there obviously isn't.... as I would've went with the factory badge...if it existed. My car has SS on the grill and no RS anywhere and is listed as a 2SS/RS so my spears say SS/RS. Some good historical points made though...thanks for the input.
