Just bought 1996 SS #223-a Polo Green 6 speed!

I saw this car a few weeks ago and have been trying to track down the owner ever since. Finally got in touch with him on Monday and struck a deal! It's car #223 of the first year of the return of the SS... According to some quick internet research, its one of just 55 polo green SS coupes with a 6 speed, and the second rarest color made. The car is in really nice shape inside and out, and came with just about every piece of factory paperwork from new, including both window stickers. It needs a few minor things, including an exhaust leak which from what I have read is likely a cracked exhaust manifold. In any case, here are a few pics.

Awesome car, I also have a 96 SS and love it! I hope your manifolds are not cracked, because you might have the honed manifolds done by SLP. The numbers are not accurate but its been said that the first 250 cars had the honed manifolds, SLP quit doing it because of the time it took to hone them.

Thanks... Pretty certain the passenger side manifold is cracked. Ticks badly when cold and nearly goes away completely when it warms up. Can't see anything with all the heat shielding on it, and looks like it's gonna be a real bear to get the manifold off, but it's gotta be done.

I have also heard that the whole "honed manifolds" thing is a myth, and that none of the production cars ever had it done. My car is definitely in the first 250, so I'll prove or disprove it pretty soon. I'm betting it's just a stock "as-cast" GM manifold.

As long as you got the manifolds off you should throw some long tubes on there

Thought about it, but it's survived completely stock for 20 years, I think I'm going to keep it that way.

Nice find congrats. How many miles on her? I would keep it stick myself. I bet you got a broken or loose manifold bolt that's causing you're leak.

You may not have. Polo Green was pretty rare, Less than 175 made, with only 55 being 6 speed T top cars.

Thanks... I'm scheduled to get the exhaust leak taken care of next week. Still not sure if it's a cracked manifold, loose or broken bolt, or warped flange... but whatever it is, it'll be taken care of soon! Here are a few better pics I took of it with my dad's country landscape as a background.
