Incredible Follow up to the HOLY CRAP - You Never Want to See thread

I emailed pics of what was left of the tire to Cooper Tires on Saturday and asked for a swift response to the issue at hand - ie me having to drive 50 miles round trip every day on potentially defective tires.

They called me today and had me take a claim number to Discount Tires (Cooper distributor) and the manager there and I had a conference call with the guy who called me from Cooper.

The long and the short: in 5 days, I will have a brand new set of Coopers ($257 each) installed for free as a courtesy from Cooper Tires. I was quite pleasantly surprised to say the least. I expected some proration but no, 100% covered.

I didn't even buy these new - they were put on the car just before I bought it. They were like new but I had no paperwork or warranty to claim. I think they recognized the safety issue of course but still, they could have just as easily told me to take a hike.

Thumbs up to Cooper Tires and Discount Tire. I'm impressed to say the least.

Glad this is working out in your favor. My local Discount has always taken good care of me. They should, I've spent a fortune there over the years. I've never really looked into Cooper tires. Curious, what is the country of manufacture?

Indeed! Thanks all. Like you Arizona28, I have always been given a square deal by Discount. I used them for years in Oregon before moving here and this will be the third set of tires I've had put on a car here by them.

I always used Discount Tire when I lived in Texas, now that I'm in Maryland the closest one is 73 miles and about 1 1/2 hours away. They always provided great service when I had to use them.

I've had nothing but problems with Cooper tires so I stay away from them... and after seeing this post, I guess my decision was a good one. I'm glad you were able to get new tires... now, turn around and sell them for some real tires :-)
