burnt clutch?

My clutch has been kind of strange since I got my car. I keep smelling burnt clutch occasionally after taking off from a stop. Then tonight I took off from a stop and the clutch seemed to stick 2/3 of the way up and really started smelling burnt clutch and the clutch felt really different after that. Is the clutch ruined? I only have 1300 miles on the car so far,is this covered under my bumper to bumper warranty?

Depending on how you're taking off, slipping it excessively could be causing the burning smell or maybe it's the clutch still breaking in. How's the fluid in the master cylinder look? If the car is stock then I wouldn't imagaine you would have a problem getting it warrantied if there's a defect in design.

I seriously doubt it's defected. As you said earlier: slipping it excessively will begin to smell, but just when you stop at a light or when so... Sounds glazed to me.

Run and Gun, I would suggest having it checked to see if there isn't something wrong in the clutch if not for a repair then out of peace of mind. Eliminating the vehicle as a suspect would be a step in the right direction to getting this issue eliminated. I hope that helps you. If you continue to have issues with the vehicle let me know. Also in regards to your warranty question the bumper to bumper would have you covered for a fix like this under normal circumstances.

I'm going to drive it some more today and see how it feels. I really hope it's me and not the car.

What master cylinder are you referring to?

Whoops. I see now the brake master cylinder is also the hydraulic clutch reservoir .
Yes, the master cylinder is full of fluid.

I hate the clutches on the these cars as well. Lately, I had a ridiculously bad metal to metal grinding in the clutch area and am wondering about whether I should have it checked out. Eventually went away after a couple stops and starts but feel it's not completely back to normal.

My question is whether I'll be charged up the wazoo if they find it to be okay. Tried getting an answer from the uninformative desk girl and she gave me a general answer: '$100 for electronic diagnostic.' From what I know, the only way a clutch can be diagnosed is to take apart the clutch assembly. Will I have to pay $50/HR for it if they determine it to be fine?
