Be careful of your tire load index rating especially Nitto Invos P245

I was in the market for new tires and went as far as calling Nitto directly to ask questions. I was really interested in the Nitto Invos. Nitto told me that they are not recommended on the camaro because it did not met GM load index requirements. Load index of the P245-45 R20 (Front stock) is 99W and the requirement by GM is 103 on the front and 106 on the rear. The P275-40R20 meets the 106 for the rear stock size. Nitto said that using an underrated tire could cause damage or even sidewall blistering. When driving at higher speeds this would not be good. Be careful on the tires you get and make sure they meet requirements. Discount Tire even recommended these to me. The computer however prevented the P245 from showing up under the camaro when they tried though. For anyone wondering, I went with the NT05 for the rears and the General Gmax for the front.

I just run 20x9 wheels with 275's all around, problem solved. I run Nitto Invo's or NT-05's, no issues.

Yeah, I really haven't found many with issues. Especially going 275s all around which have a 106 rating. Each of their tire sizes have different load index. I just wanted to bring this up to those that have or looking at tires in general to make sure the tires are actually rated for the vehicle. Especially on how people out here actually drive their camaros.

275 front with 315 rear Nitto Invo is a popular setup with wider wheels and both have a 106W rating. This is the setup I'm going with when my F14's arrive! Maybe your title should have been " be careful of your tire load index rating". This is a consideration to the buyer for ALL tires, not just Nitto Invos. It just happens that the STOCK front size Invos have a lower rating. I got a little nervous when I saw your thread!

Do you have the stock wheels on your car? If so, it is 8" front and 9" rear. P245s are for the 8" wheel. The load index is here: 245/45ZR20 99W
http://www.nittotire.com/Tire/invo#size

The load index is basically telling you how strong the sidewall is. It is the categorized to a relative weight it can hold. Remember, when you turn a corner, your car will shift more weight to the outside of the turn. So tires can feel more relative weight in a turn then when a car is sitting still. This is what this information is trying to tell you.
The front requires 103 and the rear requires a 106. Most tire companies will show the load index on their websites. What do you want out of a tire? What rims do you have?

I've got some scales at the shop. I'm gonna weigh each corner specifically to see how much of a load is on the tires. I doubt there is an actual measurement of 1700lbs of pressure on each tire.

I'll never buy Invos again for the simple fact that, after only 6K miles of NORMAL driving (no burn-outs or track runs), the tread was gone!? And I thought the stock Pirelles were bad.

Perfect timing for this post since i just bought these 2 hours ago. On the short ride home from the tire store(also raining) they felt pretty steady. I guess only time will tell. And i have been researching tires for the last month and this is the 1st time i have seen any post related to load weight for the front tires.
