Bowling Green advice please
I am wanting to plan a family event this summer. I want to meet Uncle at Bowling green and run the tracks and tour the area. None of us have ever ran a road course before. I am researching websites but this forum seems to have lots of folks with experience at this location.
He lives in Chicago and I am in Tennessee. Trying to meet in middle then maybe hit the Joliet, Illinois track in fall. So do y'all have any advice for first timers? I have slightly modded SS and he has a Mustang GT. We are by no means pros, just looking for something cool to do together. I am honestly trying to stay away from big event weekends for this first trip. Thanks in advance. |

i live a hour south of bowling green in TN and i race up at beech bend weekly at the drag strip. There they have the corvette museum as well as the factory tour you could do. Then they also have the NCM or MCM track forgot what it was called. But they sometimes have days you can go and have fun there. And for the drag strip, Every Saturday they have a test and tune and can run as many times as possible.

Several of our Music City Camaro club members race there regularly. They will have a wealth of information for you. If you are interested in joining or connecting with them send me a PM.

Go on a day when they have an instructor group there, and pay the little extra to have an instructor ride with you. It's not a forgiving track. I was there last summer for the fest, and a Track-It day.
To give you an idea of how easy things can go wrong, one of the Track it instructors backed his own car into a guard rail, and a Vette nosed into a tire barrier. So don't try to drive 10/10th first time out on the track. I'd definately use an instructor to show you the line... then ease your way up on getting quicker. Car wise... Dot 4 brake fluid is a must. Motul works really good. Make sure you have plenty of brake pad, rotor thickness, no cracks in rotors, plenty of tire tread... fresh oil. Oil, I'd go at least 10w30, and something with plenty of zinc/phos. Something like an Amsoil Signature or Zrod, and go about half a qt over. Catch can is also important for a track day. A road course day will puke a lot of oil into the can. Then during the day, watch your tire pressure carefully. You'll probably have to bleed off some pressure after the first session, then it'll stabilize for the rest of the day. Watch your tire wear too, inside and outside treads. Start the day with well over 50% tread in and out. With neg camber, the inside can wear fast and is tough to see unless you really get down there and look. |

try the tail of the dragon. I know it is not a race track but what a blast
