Whine/Whistle after cam swap

Installed new cam, valve springs, push rods recently everything seemed to go just fine now that i have given it time to break in with very little to no valve train noise difference than stock. Im getting a very annoying whine/whistling noise that increases with rpm and is not present at idle. I have checked for vacuum leaks (just using brake cleaner ) I have also taken off the drive belt to rule out water pump, alt, ps, & idlers. At this point I'm at a loss I have used the search function and found a couple of people with the same problem but the thread died with no fix . I did however find a very similar problem on a c5 that was fixed by swapping the cam out that was just installed. Any advice would be great or if anyone has seen this before??

c5 whine

Also cam installed was a lingenfelter gt12 which I believe is a comp cam I did upgrade to a 3 bolt cam gear but kept the stock chain and tensioner (car has 10k) after searching I felt all that was ok to reuse .

Not the intake tube, filter, etc? Thats weird man, always hard to tell where the noise is coming from in such close quarters too

Did you do gears at the same time?

I have installed the intake several different times just to be sure it was not the issue.

Gears are stock and untouched.

The only things that spin and would make a sound like this IMHO with everything else you've ruled out so far would be one or more of the following:

1) Oil Pump
2) Timing Chain
3) Timing Chain Tensioner
4) Cam sprocket

Something related to one of these is my bet!

I wouldn't run the car anymore and peel the front cover off to have a look. Are you running a double roller timing set? Did you clearance the pump and cover properly? Stuff like that..

No double roller timing set and Oil pump was untouched sorry should have said that earlier. To clearance the timing cover I left the timing cover bolts loose and rotated the engine with the crank pulley inside the seal and slowly tightened them as I rotated .. ( Now that you mention it I see the special tool for this ) that might very well be the issue.. I will have to pull it apart and check it out , any other recommended ways to center the front timing cover without the tool ?

Did you change throttle body? Have heard certain throttle body/intake combos whistle. Usually only does it on light throttle.

Try running the engine with the oil cap off and see if the noise goes away. Did you change any of the PCV routing?

That sounds like a belt to me. AC belt is the only one left though. It sounds like a belt with a rag held against it.

IMHO, that is a timing chain or oil pump noise. I would get that stock chain tensioner out of there and use the LS2 chain dampener instead. To me it sounds like a noise you could get from the chain rubbing against the tensioner. What makes my argument a little thin is the fact that you are using the original chain with the original tensioner.

Keep us posted.
