Anyone know? When did the factory begin using new A8 transmission fluid?
I know there are tons of threads regarding this topic, but I felt this was a big question that would be better served not buried in a 20 page thread. If mods disagree, please merge.
So, we all know that the TSB for the flush and fluid change came about in January of this year. But what I haven't really read about, is when do we think the factories began using this fluid? In addition, I wonder if the factories (cars, trucks, mid-size trucks) would have all switched about the same time. In my mind, I would reason out that it makes sense that the factories would have started using the new blue label fluid at or before the date when the TSB was issued. But I've seen where some believe GM won't start using it in the factories until they see proven results from the switch in customers cars. But that makes no sense to me...why would they even issue a TSB, unless they have good data showing the new fluid helps/resolves the issue? So...anyone have any good data showing when the factories would've made the switch, or should we just assume sometime in January? It would be good for tracking the 2019 models made after this date, and if they get the shudder.

I don't know of a date, but I would assume that they started right around the same time dealers received the new fluid, maybe slightly before...but who knows at this point.

Does the A10 use the same torque converter? If not, they won't ever switch.

Other forum members report Mobil 1 Synthetic LV ATF HP 19417577 is used per TSB Bulletin 18-NA-355.
The Owner's Manuals (below) do specify different ATF between the A8 and A10. It is interesting to me that the 2019 Owner's Manual doesn't specify a GM part number for the A8 fluid. The 2017 Owner's Manual: Recommended Fluids and Lubricants If the vehicle is an HP model, see “Recommended Fluids and Lubricants” in the HP supplement. Fluids and lubricants identified below by name, part number, or specification can be obtained from your dealer. Usage Fluid/Lubricant Automatic Transmission (8 Speed) DEXRON®-HP Automatic Transmission Fluid (GM Part No. 19300536, in Canada 19300537). The 2019 Owner's Manual says: Recommended Fluids and Lubricants If the vehicle is a Camaro High Performance model, see “Recommended Fluids and Lubricants” in the Camaro High Performance supplement. Fluids and lubricants identified below by name, part number, or specification can be obtained from your dealer. Usage Fluid/Lubricant Automatic Transmission (8 Speed) DEXRON-HP Automatic Transmission Fluid. Automatic Transmission (10 Speed) DEXRON ULV Automatic Transmission Fluid (GM Part No. 19352619, in Canada 19352620). |
