  • I'm terrified of my car NOT being in motion!
Anyone else in this boat?

Yeah, just do what you can to prevent things, but don't stress over it.

Even when the car is in motion, it's vulnerable. The roads are so bad here, and in MI the shoulders of the roads are gravel where there are no curbs. There is always some stupid driver going off the road and throwing up stones. I always try to leave a lot of space behind the car in front of me, but I just know it's going to happen! Stone chips are just a given.
Just drive it like it's the coolest car on the road. Oh wait, it is!

My wife and I will not drive our Challenger or Camaro and park in a parking lot.. they are just toys so only drive when weather is good. If one of them was a driver I would have to just realize that things are going to happen.
Our drivers are 99 Suburbans and we could care less if they get a ding..
Just take the precautions you can and enjoy...
If you can afford it take out ding insurance and lower your deductible..that may make you feel less stressed.

I'm mostly nervous about door dings. The 4th gen had plastic panels and also had those mouldings along the side that would save you from that. The 5th gen has really flat sides and it looks like they would ding really easily and it would be really obvious. I don't want to put any mouldings or anything on it and spoil the lines because it looks so good. So, I park far away when possible!

Bullcrap scratches are going to happen eventually, just chill out.

I've had mine since 6/11, and so far I have some minor, minor dings in the back rear of the car from a truck kicking up pebbles and a few visible scuffs from god-knows-what.

It is hard to own anything nice now-a-days. People are jealous and retarded.

When my friend got his RJT 2007 Cobalt SS/SC a few years ago he had it parked in a mall, and came out to find a shoe print on the side of his door (someone kicked it).

My car isnt a DD, I totally share your concerns but to be simple, s*** can and will happen. so just be smart park in the safest places you can. I never drive my car to go some where, i usally just drive to drive, but if i do have to park it somewhere i try to park by people that take care of their own cars

So it looks as if my fears weren't unwarranted... had my car for a grand total of four days now to find the following this morning:

Off-hand, anyone have a rough guestimate on the extent of the damage / cost to fix? ARGH!

I just got mine and live in your area. Had an SRT-8 Charger I traded in for it. I can empathize with your feeling because I know how VA drivers can be. Don't stress too much though -- I did that with my Charger and it wore off after a year or so. I used to park away from crowds, take up two spots if I could, and wash/wax everyweek. You love your car -- I loved the Charger until the day I traded it in, but I certainly wasn't waxing it every weekend and taking long walks in parking lots to avoid contact at the end. At some point you just come to realize that things are going to happen that are out of your control. For example, I notice a lot of people parking directly next to my "babies" when I'm the only car at the end of the lot. I think it subconsciously attract attention.

Just wash and wax, drive carefully, and be smart about your habits. She'll be fine.

Look on the bright side, you'll get plenty of exercise from the extra distance you have to walk when you park in the farthest away spot you can find.

You know, the one next to all those corvettes, and other spiffy cars...

Sorry about that. If you want my opinion, just wait a bit and get any scratches repaired at the same time. It's what I'm gonna do, and it won't make you pull your hair out whenever you fix one just to get another.

Michigan here too, and my thoughts exactly with the gravel toss. Man that p's me off

Roads here are probably the worst in the nation, but on the bright side i'll be garaging it in a week or so for the loooong winter.
