Xpel and Opticoat?
Ok with a few weeks til I get my beloved ZL1 I want to put a pla nin plan to protect the paint.
When stationed on the West Coast I had a place that put on aircraft sealer to protect the paint from rock chips (not 100% of course) but also it didn't need any kind of waxing for 7 years, water ran off it like it was teflon and always had a wet look to it. Now I'm stationed in Michigan and nobody here knows what I am talking about but everybody recommends this combo. I've read through some of the countless threads on here but I have a big question? Should I do the Opti coat then have the Xpel put on over top? Will I see a difference with or with out the Opti coat? Has anybody done this and have before and after pictures? Thank you |

There's no sense in doing the OC under the xpel from a durability standpoint

Could you see a difference from the expel to the non expel (opticoat treated area)?

Yes you'll be able to see where the Xpel ends, but that has nothing to do with Opticoat.

I wouldn't have the expel end on a panel, it would cover the whole panel to avoid that seam that will show sooner or later. But I am asking if I had the entire front done then would the doors look different than the fenders? Or should I look at getting the entire car done with expel since I would already be doing the entire front clip and rear quarters...

YOU will always notice... the other 999 out of a 1000 never pay that much attention.

Don't OC under where the paint film will go.
It may not adhere well. |

Me ? Negative.
I decided not to because: 1. Half the car is covered in PPF, which would not receive the OC anyway. 2. My understanding of OC is as follows: ...a) It's primary function is a permanent wax. ...b) It is not impervious to scratches. ...c) The scratches cannot be polished out like a OEM clear coat. I would rather polish yearly and apply wax a few times a year. |
