Injen Short Ram gives more HP than injen CAI!!??
Hi i am about to purchase the Injen Intake, but i can't decide between Short or CAI intake. The injen website claims that the short ram intake with heat shield gives Impressive gains of 18.6 HP and 17.9 lbs TQ at the wheel and the CAI only gives 16.3 HP. I am confused because i read everywhere that CAI is supposed to give you more hp gain. Can anyone help me decide. i am not making these hp gains up, they are stated on the injenairintakes.com. Thanks.

wow,,i just corrected the website lol, i just called them and told them why the short ram intake has more hp and they told me that they made a mistake and it is supposed to be the other way around. The cold air intake has 18.6 hp gain and the short has 16.3.

And JRE got 14.4 with the long tube and figure about 10 max with the short tube and all others like it, or less depending on the dyno and the day!

Actually no. Check the JRE test results and you'll see the Injen long tube had the highest average gains but the CAI intake had the highest peak gain and they were all within a few HP, same dyno, same day, short intake, long intake, and everyone made over 10hp.

I went with the short ram, and I'm happy with it. For me, those few extra HP weren't worth the extra hassle of the install, the extra hassle of getting the filter off for cleaning and the higher chance of hydrolock.

I have the injen short ram but I can't really feel the HP or or torque increases. Moreover, I seem to have lost some fuel efficiency as my MPGs have gone down by 1 mile. Is that possible?
It could also be due to taking more frequent shorter trips, but still.

if you are doing shorter trips then normal you will lose mpg. especially around town.
as far as performance my airaid v2 was noticably better then stock and injen long tube a little better then that but I have only been able to rev up once so far. |

As far as mpg's dropping after mods, it could be driving style may have changed and if you're sitting in traffic more or doing more stop/go driving it affects these cars greatly. I've been averaging around 24mpg with my mods for the most part, but I filled up a little over a week ago and we've had this cold-spell(teens to 30's mostly) and it's dropped to 20.6mpg. My route hasn't changed. I'm actually driving slower than before. Then again, who knows, I may have gotten fuel on the higher side of the ethanol mix(may contain up to 10% ethanol is crap).

I have been watching mine. I do the worst possible drive for mpg:
8 miles each way all stop and go 25-35 mph 19 lights and stops. stop and go socal freeway. 82 miles a week With the airaid v2, 15.5 MPG With the injen long tube 16.1 mpg so far but the week isnt over yet. Add weekend at 72-75 and town driving its 19 Car is auto and uses 87 octane 10% ethonal and winter blend and cooler temps doesnt help this type gas as far as mpg's |

My Injen SRI is very evident when I open the throttle. I'm not sure of the HP increase, but it is there. As for MPG, I average about 29 on the highway with M6, and 18 city.
