|I apologise ahead of time to the OP for correcting his math but according to your quote-
"Using these 'techniques' may get you some mean looks from other drivers, BUT I went from 23.1 mpg to 27.1 using these methods. That's an additional 4 MPG! At $3.65/gallon (and rising) that's $14.60. TACO MONEY!!!!"

You are getting an extra 4 MPG, well if you, for example used 15 gallons of gas that gives you an extra 60 miles, divide that by 27.1 (newly discovered MPG) and you technically got an extra 2.22 gallons of fuel, multiply it by the gas price of 3.65 and it =$8.08. Still a nice savings there, in the long run you will thank yourself for your newly aquired driving habits.

In my case I am am savig 9 gallons of fuel per gallon by watching how I drive and that comes out to around $14.60 per 15 gallon fill up at $3.65 per gallon!
I am saving between 80~100 dollars a month! Ya! your darn right I am watching my fuel mileage, and that is at $3.65 a gallon!
Gas prices are going up folks, get used to it, I for one am glad to know I can skweek 30+ mpg out of my Camaro.
One other note for those of you who like to lay the hammer down-
Say you are driving it like you stole it and your car ends up say...13 MPG like my Avalanche got me before I traded it in on a Camaro|(ya to save gas I got a Camaro, at least that is the excuse I used)
same scenario- 15 gallon fill up at $3.65 a gallon. I would be saving 17 miles per gallon driving my 30 mpg Camaro. That comes out to a savings of 8.5 gallons of gas which comes out to $31.02 per 15 gallon fill up over the Avalanche, I am saving @$134 a month|(1612 a year). and all this is figured at $3.65 a gallon, when gas reaches the $5 mark then we are talking a savings of $42.5 per 15 gallon fill up,$184 per month, $2208 a year.
All the above figures were figured at one 15 gallon fillup per week
Yes! I got the Camaro to save on fuel! AND I am having fun with it.

My question in reading everyone's comments on this thread is.....how the hell do y'all get such good gas milage lol. Granted, I have a V8, but I average 14.9 MPG. that's lower than the low end of the advertised economy. How are y'all getting 20 and higher?

Old tip from my High School Driver's Ed Teacher.

Drive as if you have an egg under your foot on the accelerator.

Will make a huge difference.

Damn premium is pissing me off with these prices. Instead of trading cars, like my wife was thinking before, I simply suggested we move closer to school and work. My drive is fun, reguardless of gas used. I see several camaros on my way to school, who like most of the other sports cars around here take it nice and easy and ignore me haha. I burn gas mainly because I get a rush overtaking these cars.

Also, I really dont care for the "its a camaro and should be driven as such" thing either. I drive fast, and im going to spend some of tax return to make this SS faster. I dont want to sound prickish but Camaro or not, if you drive below or at 70 and you see traffic behind you, move your stupid car to the middle or right lane. Had to drive behind this slow moving LT this morning waiting for traffic to free up in the middle lane. Of course I blew by him as soon as I had the chance, eating some gas...but it was damn fun

This is also not a rant against V6 camaros...this week I had some fun pulling away and slowing down with one, he waved, and it was quite fun.

DISCLAIMER: Im a 31 year old ex military college student with a flare for the theatrical)

Im at school and ranting, ha.

I wish they didn't even put hwy, city, fuel economy numbers on these cars!..lol its rediculous...I gave up on the mpg thing...takes the fun out of driving it! No matter how I drive the mpg is pathetic!...Whatever method they use to calculate what mpg we "should" be getting, has never matched my driving!..lol

thank you sir . my car says I do 26.5mpg. I thought I did more though. does it have to do with my tires somewhat. hm

o Keep the vehicle tuned and tires properly inflated.
o Remove unnecessary weight from the vehicle, especially items carried in the trunk. Dropping the weight by an extra 100 pounds in the vehicle could increase gas mileage by up to 2 percent.

care to elaborate on that part of tires properly inflated

I've always wondered why my gas mileage is bad. then my mechanic tells me:

well Ozzie, it's probably because of that big black log you have sitting on top of the engine.

I drove a 184 mile round trip today and utilised ALL the techniques for saving fuel, and managed to hold no other traffic up in my persuit of saving gas.
Folks.....I got 31 miles per gallon!!!!!!! And that aint no lie! I topped off the tank first, drove the trip, and topped it right back off at the exact same fuel pump, and I figured it out the old fashioned way, divided the amount of gas I topped it off with into the amount of miles I drove and even double checked my math, I still got 31 and change.
Now understand that i basically did this to prove a point folks, I don't ALWAYS drive like this but most of the time I try to. I wanted to prove that 30+ MPG is possible in these cars. Just last week I proved the total opposite by trying to see just how bad I can burn gas up in this thing, and managed to actually get it down to 23MPG, normally I get 26~27 MPG. I have never gotten 31 MPG, the best I have done, so far to date, is 29MPG, but now that my car is past the "broken in" stage, it is really starting to wake up powerwise and fuel economy wise, I just love this car.
The roads I drove were all back country roads in east GA, lots of twists and turns and only about a handfull of folks that I needed to pass(you know they are really going slow when you can pass them in cruise control)
I will go back to my normal driving habits because I can live with the MPGs at normal driving.
Another nice thing is I filled up at $3.49 a gallon today, so that's a big plus...........................I just love living out in the sticks where all I mostly drive is country roads, I don't miss gridlock of the cities, I would rather content with the occasional farm tractor than city driving any day.

Upgrading your suspension for better handling prevents braking in places you used to need to.
After I did full bolt-ons my HP/TQ/MPG all went up.

With a little over 400 HP I counted 30.1 mpg all highway once. Use GPS, it saved me the most gas.
