Why won’t anyone install my stripes for less than the price of my kidney?

I have searched..and searched... and searched... everyone on here seems to have paid 80-150 dollar for their oem stripe install. I am in Northern California and have called 4 dealerships, 3 vinyl pro places, and 2 tint shops (wouldn’t go thru them anyway), and the CHEAPEST quote I’ve found is if I uninstall the old stripes, and bring in a new set, the dealership will charge 400 dollars just for install. Literally gotten anything from 450-800 for the whole process stripes not in included. Anyone know where to go in Northern California for help? Everything I’ve read is that it’s not worth doing it yourself if your not a patient person, and I definitely am not.

You are paying the CA Tax Tax. In order for businesses to be able to survive in that state, you gotta pay.

My best friend did mine in his family’s sign shop. We used wrap vinyl which is more forgiving and it took us like 12 hours. Granted we were designing the stripes in his vinyl cutting software from scratch. It is a tedious process getting everything lined up and installed right. It’s expensive because it takes a lot of time and with vinyl if you screw up most of the time you are making another set. I’m honestly probably gonna have mine painted on in the future

How much did it cost to get painted on? I have only checked one place and they quoted me 1500. If I can find it for 800 or so for a good job I would do it.

Call Bill for a quote, I cannot remember what I paid, but I can say it turned out perfect, Bill and his wife have been doing stripe installs for a long time. Had stripes + rear stripe done in 3 hours.

I own my own shop here in Ohio. Taking into account the costs involved to be in Cali, those prices are probably spot on. I do charge more for install of vinyl if supplied by the customer. Reason is not all vinyl is the same to install. Plus, if a mistake is made even if not by me, I end up owning it.

Plus, you don't work for free if you own a business. Folks don't realize all the 'extras' a business pays that's part of the deal. It's more than just labor in costs. If I want cheap, I'll do it myself.

If you bring your own parts, sometimes you need to budget for problems - and the shop usually does not do the reinstall for free...

Small businesses don't have the luxury of discounts for everyone...

In CA I would imagine the cost of doing business is much more 'taxing' so the customer pays for it..
