SO I BACKED OUT OF THE ORDER BECAUSE... - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

So some of you may know that I had a thread going titled, My car is in new york. Well it was, but I backed out of the order..... here's why: It all started when Trent posted of a 2SS non RS at Joe Basil Chevy in NY. Apparently a person backed out of a deal there with the sales manager Steve D. I was extremely happy to come across this post as it should seem so. I mean... a built car with no buyer!!! I was stoked, needless to say. Anyway, I call Steve the next day after exchanging a few pms with Trent the night prior. He seems happy to have a buyer. The first thing he tells me is that it will be a 1000 dollar deposit. No big deal there, plus it was coming to me at MSRP. We arrange a trade in value site on scene for my 2008 Chevy Silverado EXT Cab 1LT Truck. 18k is the going price in NY so I was fine with that. Everything seemed to be going fine. He stated I would pay the shipping of the car to Tampa. It was going to go like this: My camaro would come in and get the stripes put on, I would sign the buyers order(which was going to be sent FEDEX to me) and put my down payment and the loan check in the return envelope and send it back. When he received my payment he would schedule a hauler and put my car on it and send it my way. Still everything sounds golden, right? When the car came here, the hauler driver was to do a thorough inspection of my truck, load it up, and be on his way.... done deal. Well as im about to sign the loan paperwork Steve calls. "Hey man, I am going to have to send the hauler down to pick your truck up, then you are going to still have to send me the money. Then when the truck gets here, I will have the used car guy(who had 17 pictures of my truck already) take a look at it. If everything is a go, I will send the camaro down. I told him I was a bit weary of this deal, I mean, I have to be without a car. Pay 60K worth of my assets to a guy I have never met, and trust that he willl do what he stated. I think about it for a few days. Tried a few other options to work with him and finally decide I could not do it this way. Basically, the nice man Steve told me it was his way or no way at all and he would refund my money. He also said he already had to lose a possible buyer due to my deposit. Anyway, I tell him I can't do it. He gets all pissy with me and says he is done talking about it. He will refund my money and hangs up on me. So the next day I call up there and talk to a sales manager name Gary. I asked to speak to Steve and was informed that he was on vacation..... LOL!!!!! Wow, what a shocker huh? He also tells me that they had to lose money on the deal as they sold this same camaro less than 11 hrs after I backed out. WTF? Lost money huh? Anyway, I had to go through my bank and file a claim to get my money back. All because Steve and the owner wanted to change a deal at the last minute. That is all

If you are having trouble getting your money back then I think you did the right thing... Doesn't sound like they can be trusted.

It sucks but guess you can just get back in line and wait a bit longer... Good Luck.

I walked away from Steve the minute he told me my interest rate on my loan was going to be 9.5%. I have a 795 credit rating and make great money. So I went with a local dealer for MSRP and a rate in the high 5 or low 6's depending on the, market when the car comes. They were selling the car for $500 above invoice and going to make up for it 5x on the interest, I have no time for BS. I knew I was making the right move, I hope others have better luck with them.

That's a tuff thing to do with a trade being unseen.

Better off going local. If your truck is 4WD, 18K is a little light anyway.

it is a 2wd. not to bad for up north IMO. Just a bad experience all around. Also He should have agreed on the trade price in the first place.

I've bought many used cars on ebay with a small deposit then fly down and look at them before I hand over the rest of the money. I don't care how well it's described and pictures I won't completely pay for it till I look it over and drive it. Your always better off selling your vehicle than trading anyway. I also have a deal with Steve D. and hope mine doesn't end up with glitches.

Thanks Eric. Maybe, you can sell the truck private and just buy the car from Steve, just get a local loan?

I was down in Tampa/Orlando last week. I stopped at the dealer in the area and they haven't even gotten their dealer cars yet. They seem to be very behind us here in NY. Had a blast in the Hard Rock Casino in Tampa, they paid for the rest of my vacation......looking forward to coming back.....I love Florida!

He sold the car 11hrs after I backed out. According to a thread I read in the sightings forum, 2500 over MSRP. I will never deal with them again!!!! I encourage everyone else to be wary with them also
