Anyone have any roll racing advice?
I am going to a 1/2 mile race Sunday called no fly zone in Gila Bend AZ. I've never roll raced before so I'm looking for some pointers. The event has a small area to get up to speed before flooring it but I don't know how much room there is. I saw one video where the guy racing was asking the people racing him if they wanted to do 50 mph or 60 mph. When I signed up I assumed I'd be out powered so I was planning on focusing on just doing the best I can. But they released the participants list and as long as everyone on there was honest about their horse power I should have a chance at beating some people.
For 1/4 mile I normally drop the tire pressure should I not worry about this for 1/2 mile roll racing? I'm on continental DW tires and putting 473hp to the wheels. What is a good speed and gear to get the most advantage out of my starts? I'm stock gears and suspension.

Sounds like you will have a ton of fun!
Im guessing that races will depend on what you agree with / set up with other people for your runs. I would try to have my tires as inflated as possible while mantaining maximum traction. You want to create less rolling resistance. I would say about 36psi (dependant on your tire's parameters) I would suggest that you start your rollls at the lowest gear possible with the RPMs high in the meat of the power band. I believe that 60 roll in 2nd (which should put you at about 4.5-5k rpms), would be "money" for you. If you can catch traction in 1st, I would go for 30 rolls (but if you roast the tires, I would not do any rolls lower than 2nd at 55). Also, your reaction off the "hit" is paramount. You need to try an anticipate and beat your opponent's. Keep your windows rolled up, traction controll OFF, A/C off, radio off and try to lighten the car as much as possible. Have just enough gas as needed, about 1/4 of a tank at the event. Have fun and be safe! PS: try and get us some video!

Thanks man. I think at 30 in first I should be good traction wise. I'll try to get some good videos.
I'm also pretty excited to see how my car does at the lower elevation I think the track is at 795 ft elevation.

I would suggest you do a couple of "test hits" @ 30 before the event...
Keep it safe and update!

You are going to start the roll race at 40+mph. So at your power level, keep your tires aired up.
We'll be there with a couple quick TT camaro5's out on Saturday if you want to watch. |

I have other plans Saturday. Would have liked to see one of your TT Camaros though. I plan on getting one of your TT kits eventually.

I don't think any of the really fast ones are going sunday. Maybe we'll catch you next time at the December event.

Do you have some more information on the December event. I might try to trailer out there for some winter fun...

And another. I had a blast. Got over 45-50 runs with a best speed of 148 mph. I have a ton of videos to go through and see what to put in YouTube.

Here is another one against some type of Mercedes I can't remember but he jumped the start and I had to run him down. I didn't get many videos that showed other cars I was having issues with the GoPros I borrowed so I ended up recording all the runs with my phone.
