Part of the issue is this is a quite old version of the software, and there are numerous vulnerabilities is my understanding... I can't believe there isn't a way to update to a newer software and retain the mass of records. No doubt some would be lost... but we could hopefully control the site more efficiently...

As I was told, the members list was a weak spot hackers and others took advantage of, so it was shut off, we can't even access it.... I used to troll the new members list daily looking for tell tale signs of a spammer...."Drives BMW," Lives in (name some place that has never seen a Camaro) We lost that avenue... We would apologize, welcome them in with open arms and all would have a decent laugh...

I’m an Administrator on another car forum, and our Moderators are able to IP-ban spammers. Tagging a new user as “spam” automatically deletes any threads they’ve created, posts they’ve made, and IP-bans them. It also automatically looks up any other users with the same IP address and asks if you want to ban those as well. I can’t imagine running a forum without those tools.

In addition, any moderator who does not post in one calendar year gets removed from moderator status. You can’t be a moderator if you’re not on the site lol!

This forum might need the name changed to Spam6

Seriously, it's getting ridiculous. Some spam threads stay up for days or weeks.

Admin is nowhere to be found. Sounds like most of the Moderators are no longer active and the few that are don’t have the necessary anti-spam resources to deal with it. :(

18 months since his last post seems like a long time to me, especially if you're the administrator.

We can summon them easily, though, anything deemed to be political pulls them back like a magnet.

As old as this forum engine is, I'm sure it has at least some post verification scripting capability, at which point this kind of dumb spam would be easy to get rid of.

Whats worse is we also have to deal with ad's in every thread that are not related to certain troll posters.

EV's amirite?

The offtopic thread has been around for weeks now, and is 6 pages deep. I've reported it multiple times to no avail.

Agreed. The reins need to be handed over so the forum doesn't die a slow death from spam and inactivity. The inactivity will happen due to the spam.

Sounds wonderful....Maybe one of these days....

FWIW in case anyone wants to try and research this and understands what they are looking at (certainly not me...lol), this looks like our software:

Another site I'm a member of was forced to upgrade to 6.0.3 which was the newest version at the time. The upgrade wiped out all posts older than a year old, all avatars, all signatures, profile settings, members picture albums. All pictures that was uploaded to the forums server was deleted. To say it was a mess for a couple months afterwards would be an understatement. After going through all that, I can see why this site hasn't been upgraded.

What's bad, the version we are running was released in 2014. There have been almost 120 version updates since then. Version 3.x.x and 4.x.x stopped receiving technical support back in 2017.
