Continentals or Michelin

My 2013 has been running the Continental extremes summer tires and they are nice tires. I am looking at the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S which is also a summertime tire. Both have about the same ratings and warranty, anyone ever run both of these and able to give me some direction? Thank you.

I have run both and on these cars and others. It is hard to choose. They both are great in the summer and rain and have roughly same longevity. If you are brand loyal you can't go wrong with either.

I’m leaning Michelin just to give them a try. The continentals ran nice and like how they look. I’m hoping the Michelin will look as good. I can get a little better deal on Michelin but I don’t want them if they are not as good.

Just my experience and opinion. I have run both. The Michelins were great but they got hard quicker than the Continentals and had little traction after some years and heat cycles. They were good in rain but terrible in anything under 50 degrees. The Continentals seemed to be a little better as a street tire for a nice quiet ride. I would bet that Michelins are better track tires to wear them out quickly but they are expensive.

I live in Northern Komifornia and the car doesn’t leave the garage unless the weather is nice. No rain! All I need is summer tires and I know what you mean about some tires getting hard sooner than others, have had that issue on my drag truck. Always loved Michelin on my 4x4 trucks and stuff, just never had their summer performance tires. I agree with everything you said about the Continentals. They are completely worn out but still are soft. I don’t put 4K miles on this car a year. Thanks for the reply, anyone else had these and have an opinion? Thanks

I've run the Conti's for 13 years now, the DWSO6 Extreme Contact, but they don't make them anymore, so I'm running their DWO6 Sport tire on the front, and I love them! They just about match the Michelin Sport 4S's I have on the rear tread design wise. I don't run the Conti's on the rear anymore because they don't make a 335/30 to go on my 11.5 wide wheel, so I'm running the Michelin's now. But both tires are a great choice, no issues yet.

These are what I have on the fronts.

And these are what I have on the rears. Really like both tires and how they run and ride.

May I ask why one brand on front and another on the rear? I know some run a softer compound in the rear, are you thinking the Michelins are softer than the Contis up front?

From my previous post.

I don't run the Conti's on the rear anymore because they don't make a 335/30 to go on my 11.5 wide wheel, so I'm running the Michelin's now.

The only other tire in a 335 was Pirelli, and I don't like them.

I’m sorry, hard to see who I’m talking to when using my phone! Then let me ask the other way around. Why not matching Michelins on the front? Is it a tire design of Continental you like for the front?

No worries. Well I would have done the Mech's in the front to match the rear, but at the time I couldn't afford them, they were about a hundred bucks more, plus I liked how the Conti's have always performed on the front, so I got the Conti's because they pretty much matched the tread design of the Mech's.. And they are a bit harder compound I believe, so they don't wear as fast. The last set I had on the front I got about 50k miles out of them.

I never liked the Pireli's too when I purchased my former 2011 new. I only got about 15k miles out of them give or take. I tried the Conti's for my current 2010 and not sure if I liked them. I didn't get much tire life out of them as well. Currently I am running Nitto's and I love them!

The Contis do seem to last real well up front. I also like how the feel in the turns. I’d stay with Contis but I can get a good deal on the Michelins so I just wanted to make sure they weren’t junk. I just want a summer only tire and never even knew Michelin had then. I’ve looked at the Nittos too but I have never owned them for any vehicle so it’s hard to pull the trigger on those. I think I’ll get the Michelins all
Around.

You won't be sorry. One of my Camaro friends with a 2014 1LE has the Michelins on all 4 corners, and he likes them. And as for the Nitto's, I ran the G2's on the rear at one point, couldn't get any traction no matter what, so I replaced them with the Conti's when I had the 11 inch Z28 wheels on her.
