Dealer offer to buy my SS...What do you think?

I really hate to get rid of my baby. This car has been the fastest and most fun machine I have ever owned but I am starting to plan investing funds elsewhere (new home in spring, marriage in the future, etc) and someone on here told me to take it to the dealer. MY car is a 6 Speed 1SS with 4800 miles, I bought it for $28,875 in April and added the mods listed in my sig. I was thinking I would like to get $30-31k but after searching the market it seems that $30k is probably most it would sell for private party. I took it into the local Chevy dealership last weekend and the used car manager looked it over and threw me an offer of $29k to buy it right off of me no hassle. I asked him if he could do $30 and he said because of the season around here he couldnt go that high. He said I could hold onto it until spring and then see if I could pull the extra cash but then I have to store it and make 6-7 more payments for it to sit not to mention it becomes official 2 years old in January. What do you guys think about this price? I am really close to saying screw it and just dumping it right now.

I own a car lot in Pittsburgh PA. and I can tell you first hand that you will never get all the money we put into our cars. I really think it sounds like a decent number for the car. I would try to get a couple more bucks out of him and call it a day. If you wait to long you have to keep making payments and even if they do give you more money for it you are not any better off. Just my opion. Good luck buddy.

Thats what I was kind of thinking too. I know I'll never get the money back from mods. I think selling it for what I bought it for and using it for a summer isn't that big of a loss. I hate to hold out til spring and still get the same money. Ugghh this is gonna be a sad day :(

I would of offered you 30 for the car but I bought one already. Its good to know these cars are getting a decent trade value.

Keep them honest. Go to carmax and get a quote. 30 minute process. I got trade in values from a couple of dealers and then got a quote from carmax and it came out 1k higher. Sold it on the spot.. no hassles, left with check in hand.

At the very least, you've got something to bargain with.

I bought my 12 for $29,150... no leather. I'd take it and run. The mods are a write off.

There isn't much but cosmetics to be removed and that's only worth a couple bucks, not worth the time. Definitely not pulling the cam or the exhaust.

Your car may be worth less with the mods you have done. With a voided warranty it really hurts the resale value, unless you find the right buyer.

I agree with take the money and run. I wouldn't expect to see more $$ on the table than that.

It's possible the dealer gave a decent price because he has a likely buyer in mind now. Like you mentioned OP... the 6-7 payments and depreciation is worth considering, and no way of knowing what the market value will be later.

Absolutely take it- especially at this time of year! I was getting offer of 27,000ish in our area. Carmax was the lowest at 26,500. I finally sold mine private party to a guy from Texas last month for what your dealer is offering. Mind you, mine was a bone stock 2010 2SS.

Like everyone else is saying, take it and run. If you really want/need to get rid of it. It sounds like the best deal you will get. I don't know if you own the car or paying on it. You might be able to get a few K more if you wait.

if you are paying on it think of all the interest you will pay and lose out on, plus time.
