Posts Swayed Me - Now I'm Going MGW, but which one?

Hi All,

OK, gonna go ahead and give a MGW a try. Currently have the OEM hurst shifter, but hear such good things that I will sell that and get this instead. So.... I'm leaning toward the flat stick (but debating color) with black six speed knob, but want to see who here prefers flat stick vs retro.

Also, are there other knob options worth taking a look at? Definitely leaning toward black I think.

I have an inferno orange SS convertible, if that matters for decisions on color.

Thanks!

Mike

I have the flat stick, it took a little while to get used to the knob being in a different position due to the canted back design.

I have the flat stick and love it. The car has never shifter better or quicker. Plus the flat profile to me had an awesome look. Like said before, it does slant back some and felt different but after a while I like it better. I can sit further and more comfortable from the steering wheel but very easily reach and find every gear. Go flat stick.

I have the flat stick in black and had their shift knob originally until I went with a weighted shift knob.

I went with the brushed finish from the link below.

I just ordered a heavyweight stainless with etched pattern here, I went with 3/8-16 threads to fit the billet hurst. Then it's off to the powdercoater for a vintage Ivory coating.

Ok I went ahead and ordered the flat stick in black, but just went with mgw’s black ball with six speed pattern. There’s a little bit of a lead time on them so time to change the knob if I wanted.

What was the reasoning for switching to one of the other options? Looks, weight? Did the weight really make that big of a difference in feel? Don’t want a low grade knob.

The weight makes a huge difference. It helps reduce the notchiness between shifts.

Thanks. I take it the mgw knob offered is not heavy at all?

I have a retro knob on mine. I like the look of the flat stick way better but I couldn't beat the deal I got. The ball knob is actually the most comfortable knob imo. The shifter I got, they guy included a white and black ball and their race knob.

Their knob isn't very heavy

I am going to cancel the knob and get something more weighted. Now it’s which!

I looked at those when I got mine. I decided to go a little heavier but that was just my preference. The one from MGW is very light.
