Undercoating recommended for MA?
20 years ago when I was up in Canada, it was recommended to undercoat the car to avoid rust from the salt during harsh winters. I remember the dealership itself did it for my TransAm back then.
I've just moved to MA and the Chevy dealership doesn't do it and doesn't recommend it either. He said it would trap the humidity!! What do you all recommend? |

I'm in Ohio, but that's the first thing I did when I bought my Camaro. Of course I used to work at the shop that did the work, so I know it was done right.
If they do it right, with the right product, then moisture isn't an issue.

Agree with the dealer. At best, it will last a few years anyway. One small opening around the usual areas and it rusts.
Wash it regularly. Avoid driving in crappy weather if you can. Save your $$$. |

The detailer I use sprays Fluid Film, it’s like a light oil/grease texture. Supposed to work very well, I don’t drive my car in the winter so I can’t personally comment on it.

It's not the old days when all cars rusted out in just a few years. My '10 SS has seen over
7 Ct Winters. There's no body rust anywhere on my Camaro including the undercarriage.

Body panels are galvanized and much more resistant to rust than in the heyday of "rustproofing".
Have you ever seen behind the wheel well liner of a car that was "rustproofed"? It's a mess of goop, sand, and salty water. I agree with your dealer who says it just makes a mess and creates pockets for moisture. Plus the only way to apply it thoroughly would be to remove the exhaust system beforehand. |
