Compresor issue

Hi since the warm weather is just starting here I noticed the A/C was not cold enough, so I went to this A/C shop they "check" the gas quantity and determine after putin in a few o so the guy told me, that I have a faulty compresor.

After searchin the possible issues the only 2 I may notice since today are the lack of cold but after they put the gas in it I instantly notice a far better temperature is far more cold.

The other I noticed since then is that the engine fans are sometimes runing or some fan is runing, I noticed its noise even while runing with all windows closed and the inside fan on high like a vibration, this was not the case prior this guy "charge" the gas.

I may thank some guide on 2 things.

1st can my compressor be the cause even with good inside temp now. I have the feeling or is my ignorance that if now is working how they may know I need a new compressor, and also they told me the work on it it will take 3 to 4 days because they need to clean all the system, again may be is my ignoracen on the matter.

2nd If so I went to rock auto and for 2010 Camaro SS there are some different options buy they said I need to check the label on the one installed, but I can not find it from below the can were the compresor is.

Thanks in advance.

A/C work is a pain in the butt, and not super easy. Only tackle this on your own if there’s no other option, or if the Camaro isn’t your daily driver. Once you get into it, it might be a while before you can get it back on the road.

That said, you almost certainly have a coolant leak. I recommend getting another shop to put some dye in the system and find the leak before you start throwing parts at it.

a compressor can be failing and still deliver cold air. You would have to connect some gauges and see what the high and low pressures are.

I had to replace the compressor on my turbo car because I over tightened the mounting bolts when reconnecting after the engine build. I was tightening and suddenly heard refrigerant leaking. As said, it can be a PITA. You need to be able to vac down the system with an AC pump if you open it up. Cleaning it with aerosol cleaner is a good idea before you reassemble and vac it. These systems won't open the low side to take refrigerant unless there is a certain amount of pressure. When my AC acted up last year, I had to take it to a shop to have them add refrigerant with a reclaim machine. My issue was the valve by the radiator, which is a very common problem. A new valve is <$10 but recharging the system is >$100. if you want to do a quick check, remove the cap and put your finger over the valve. If you feel a pressure build up, it's bad. You can also use soapy water and look for bubbles.

thanks a lot for your kind suggestions, I will try another A/C shop and see the posible leak issue.

In the wosrt case scenario I may go an buy from my self over rockauto the compresor kit and ask the shop for the instalation only.
