Not feeling the love for 20" wheels
I have the stock 20" wheels on my 2SS. They're nice but I really would prefer 18" and larger sidewall tires.
I know some of our yoots like the large diameter wheels. But I'm from back in the day and I just can't wrap my head around these large wheels and narrow side walls. I know many probably think that 20" isn't large at all but it's monster size to me. 22", 24" look like wagon wheels. Again, that's ME, I don't like 'em. It's obvious that plenty of car enthusiasts including many here like the large wheels. Great, but not me. So...I prefer the Crager, ET mag, Centerline look. A dished out, smaller wheel wider sidewall tire. Just a bit more than I have now with these very nice Pirellis, but they're too thin in the skin. Any options I'm not aware of? I've looked for weeks and I can't find anything. Any and all suggestions are welcome. "Stuff it up your, tailpipe, Mud." There, that ones out of the way. This Camaro's bitchin' but are there any aftermarket 60's-70's looking 18" wheels and tire combos? Vendors? Help an old schooler out, please. :flag2: Thanks.

18s barely fit over the calipers on the SS, and only a few of the wheels on the market will work. They need a high offset construction, with minimal lip depth. Not exactly how they did it in the 60s-70s, those wheels had a negative offset and deep lips back then. No "deep dish" type wheels will fit our brake caliper and offset requirements. The only 18s I carry that will fit properly are the Forgestar F14 wheels. Here are a few examples:

I've not seen an 18 that clears our calipers and looks old school. Forgestar does have a simple 5-spoke wheel, but 18s aren't in stock yet. It looks like this: Tony

Thanks, nineball. That's what I figured. OK, do you think they'll be anything out in a 20" that will resemble something like a slotted mag? It doesn't have to be deep, just something with a few inches of an edge.
Here's lock's car. It looks pretty good. I like the satin, machined finish, the dished out edge, but the price is in the stratosphere. Something like this with some slots or holes would be perfect.

I'm with you! I think performance cars should not run big wheels. I'm not a big fan of 20" inch wheels as well but they made this car fit 20". So that’s what I'm going to run. I would some a little smaller like 18" or 19" but it just hard to fit those wheels on the wheels...
I'm getting some new wheels soon. You will get to see them from Camaro fest or pictures from the fest. But I think you would like them. I plan some BIG meaty tires on them!

Meaty tires!
Yeah, I'm going to go to the fest and check out all the wheels, listen to the exhausts, and check out everyone's modifications and accessories.

Heck, I'd even go for some Heritage wheels in silver if they'd clear the calipers. They don't make them in 20" Awww, sheepdip.

There aren't many old school looking 18" wheels (as far as I could find). I wanted either Cragar's or Torq Thrusts (or similar style) in an 18", but had no luck finding any. :(

Glad to hear there's some others out there who feel the same.
That wheel pictured above on lock's orange Camaro...man, if the rest of the wheel was slotted with the lip it has now I'd buy them in a heartbeat. Basically, it's the wheels you'll find on many trucks, the brushed/satin dish with holes in them. Something like this:

I guess I have a different opinion here. I like some of the old school wheels, but I like them on old school cars. This is a modern car, and to me just doesn't look right with a Cragar type wheel. I actually ride around on 22" Savinis, and to me they look perfect for this car. If I still had my '72 Camaro these wouldn't be the wheel I'd choose.
Obviously this is just an opinion, and everyone is entitled to their own. I actually did purchase 18" wheels, but I got them for the track. Of course it doesn't hurt that they look great too. Here are some pics of both. |

Russ,
Yep, to each their own. I guess I wouldn't mind the 20's if I could get the wheels I want. Who knows, maybe some day. Checking your list, that's some serious hardware you got. 600+ hp at the rear. Yikes.

I've got 18" TSW Nurburgring rims waiting to go on Friday and to the track on Sunday afternoon. TSW has other rims with the right offsets that are more old school. You want to look for 35mm (Front) and 40mm (Rear) offsets. For 2011's, you replace the roller skate brake pads up front for fitment, that's all. I'll post pics Friday.
